Just wanted to let people know that I am currently on antibiotics and am using FemDophilus vaginally a few times a week (along with taking it orally on the other days).

I was afraid to use it vaginally because I thought it would aggravate my tissues but was pleasantly surprised to see that does not. I have already gone through menopause and, for me, the FemDophilus really seems to bring moisture back into those tissues. I will probably keep using it even after I am off antibiotics. It did not irritate my bladder either - if anything, I think it helps.

I've been using Femdophilus for about 3 weeks (been on antibiotics for about 5 weeks), & its helping me also. I take a pill a day (orally). I'm peri-menopause & was getting very dry, but vaginal moisture is returning. My cervix was also getting very sensitive & painful during sex (possibly due to cervical dysplasia & HPV I have), but that is going away too. It also doesn't give me cramps & gas the way acidophilus does.

? about the femdoph...isn't ACIDOPHILUS what keeps yeast infections away? i'd like to try this but am a bit confused. thanks,

There are people on here with more knowledge & experience who can probably better answer your question, but femdophilus & acidophilus are both probiotics. The health food store I go to has probably 30 different brandnames, blends, & dosages of probiotics - all are useful for replacing depleted "good bacteria". I've read a blend of several probiotics is better than straight acidophilus, but I'm no expert. I have a friend who takes 6-10 capsules of acidophilus per day & it keeps her vaginal yeast infections under control. It just gave me stomach cramps, bloating, & gas. I tried a few other polydophilus blends also, but Femdophilus seems to work the best for me (no cramps or other side effects). Its enzymes are different in that they're specifically made to survive till they get to the genitourinary tract.

If you look up Fem-Dophilus on the Internet (Jarrow is the maker) you will see that it is formulated to promote healthy bacteria in the vagina and urinary tract. I don't think there are other probiotics out that that make this claim.... :)

No, I don't think there is another product targeted specifically for the urogenital system. I read one of the patents Gregor Reid, PhD, received for this combination of Lactobacillus and he did exhaustive testing with pathogens that inhabit the intestinal and vaginal and urinary system. He had already done much research on bacterial vaginosis and is well-known around the world for his work with probiotics. It is a much better approach than using antibiotics for everything. He discusses the biofilms that bacteria can form and that make it hard to treat infections.

I don't understand why they don't advertise this product in magazines and on websites.

I also don't understand why they don't advertise Femdophilus. And why don't they advertise the DivaCup? I love the DivaCup but never see them sold in the stores or advertised. It was my friend who told me about it. I'm sure more people would buy these things if they knew about them. Most people I talk to have never heard of Femdophilus or the DivaCup.

I know many here are taking FemDophilus but some are concerned that the bottle says "Keep in refrigerator". Yet it is mailed across country in the summer heat. I wrote to the Jarrow probiotics sales manager about this and here is his reply:
....."we do require refrigeration for the Fem-Dophilus in order to acheive the longest possible shelf-life (18 months). However, it can survive just fine in shipment for 2-4 days without refrigeration. It may lose about 10-20% of potency (CFU count), but since we put "extra" CFU into the product during production, this loss is accounted for ahead of time (i.e. we put about 7-8 Billion CFU/capsule in at time of manufacture in order to cover any potential loss during transit, shipment, etc. - that way, our customers are still guaranteed to get 5 Billion CFU per capsule at time of consumption.)"

I'm starting my 3rd bottle of FemDophilus and I think I'm beginning to have less vaginal dryness and irritation. It's got a lot of solid research behind it. I think it's a good product.

I only have good things to say about Femdophilus. I get mine from www.vitacost.com - cheaper than the health food stores & their regular shipping is fast so better for enzyme survivability. (no, I'm not an employee, just offering info).
