Hello fellow IC'ers

I have a question, and the reson its for women is becuase its about urine volume on voiding and men can be slightly different. I was wondering how much you drink during the day, how much you void on average and how many times a day you go. I'm doing another voiding diary, and I am so very curious!
THANKS!!!

Erika:hi:

Total fluid intake:2-3 liters
Average void-140 cc
Average voids per day-17.5

Erika,
I find this a very intersting topic as well because I was shocked when I did my voiding diary! I know I drink alot, like today I will drink at least 3 24 oz bottles of water while I'm at work and then I will drink at least another 24 oz if not more once I get home. I void anywhere from 30-40+ times in a day. When I measured the amount it was rare that I went more than 4 oz (1/2 cup). I thought for sure I was going a larger amount than that each time I voided. I was def eye opening and kinda depressing to say the least

I was thinking that I was drinking too much water at first, but I know i'm not. I exercise 4 times per week, and dispite all that water my urine is still quite yellow. I guess I do pee more than usual. I dont know, I guess I get paranoid it is all in my head and I dont pee frequently at all. See what the doctors did to me!:cussing:

I remember years ago I went to the doctor because of frequency. The replied was, "Don't drink to much." The strange thing about it the doctor did not ask me how much I drink during the day.

Wouldn't it have been wonderful if the doctor would have took the time and ask me to keep a void daily and a daily of my intake.

I love to hear that you do keep a diary and keep an eye what is going on with your body. That is one of the greatest thing you can do for yourself. I wish I was smart enough to know to do this back then.

Sending hugs, Trishann

I also have been keeping a diary for over a month. When I went to see my new urogyne, he told me to stop. He said it is ok to do it for a few days just to get an idea, but said it will make you go nuts. And he was right. I notice that I am always paying attention to what I drink and how much I pee.
I did notice that if you add up all that you drink within 48 to 72 hours, you and what you also voided within those hours, it should be almost an equal amount. There may be slightly less if you were exercising due to sweating. But it should be close in number.
I also notice that my days are very different. Some days I pee like 12 to 14 times a day and others it is over 20. Some times I can void up to 10 ounces and sometimes I have to go so bad and only have 3 or 4 ounces. It can change every hour.
I am trying to stop the diary, but my first urogyne got me hooked on keeping one. But my new urogyne said it will just add stress to myself.

I was required by my uro to do this. Its because i'm getting the interstim and he needs something to compare my trial with. I've done this before but never this in-depth. I always worry about peeing. When I go somwhere will they have a clean bathroom? Is there an irving on the way? Is there a tolilet at all? Somedays when i'm having a good day I feel like I am almost normal...then I go out and over-exert and I realize I really am sick. the doctors of my past really made me nuts...I always second guess myself. Am I really sick? Do I really have bladder pain?

Jen,
I only did mine for a couple of days to show my new uro but the first time I only listed times not how much. He was happy I had done this but said he needed just 24 hours w/ times and amounts. I did it that one day which was the end of March and I haven't done it since. I don't mind doing it for a couple of days if I know it will be helpful but I can see how your new dr would be right. After awhile it would drive me nuts. I'm happy I stopped but I might do it again soon to really see if I see a big difference now that I have started the Elavil.

Hi Christine, and Erika.
First off, you are not nuts Christine. I know when I have bladder pain and know I am not nuts. Neither are you. Dont ever let a doctor make you feel like you are nuts. You always have the upper hand and know your body better than anyone else.
Christine, yes, I found that it was making me nuts keeping a diary. I found I was always looking at it and trying to figure it out. As far as the elavil, is it helping your pain in the bladder? I took it awhile back for severe throrat burning I was getting and it gave me bad heartburn and I had to stop it. I only took it for a couple days. I was thinking about asking my urogyne to maybe prescribe a cousin med to elavil like pamelor or something. I wonder if that would help without all the side effects.

Question... How do you measure? Especially if you are at work? Do you bring a measuring cup in with you? Thanks in Advance

Diane, LOL, I didn't do the measuring at work, or people would have thought I was :loco: carrying a measuring cup in and out of the bathroom! I did it on a Saturday going into Sunday and made sure that I kept my intake of water what it usually is. I asked the dr how to measure and he said w/ a kitchen measuring cup but I obviously didn't want to do that so I bought a cheapy one at Walgreen's that showed oz and peed into that for 24 hours. I only did the voiding diary with times while I was at work.
Jen,
It's sooooo soon to tell but I really think the Elavil is working, I usually use my heating bad on my pelvis or my back the whole day while I'm at work, this week I haven't even turned it on yet! I'm scared to say that it's the Elavil though because I'm afraid that I might jinx it, lol, but I'm really hoping this is going to help a lot with the pain

I did mine at work! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I don't give a crap these people treat me like ****. I had a huge hat that I put on the potty then rinsed it out on the sink right infront of my coworkers. I hate them and if they have a problem with that tough. I dare them to fire me for peeing.

My doc advised me to only drink 4 - 6 cups of fluid a day because of frequency. It seems to help. Back when I thought my IC was kidney stones, I took in 2 -3 liters and I was absolutely in pain and going to the bathroom every 10 -20 minutes.

Oh wow Beandip, if I only drank that much in a day I would be dying. When my urine gets really concentrated it really hurts. If that works for you it's great! I hate going all the time but i would rather go and not be in as much pain as opposed to not going and being in more pain

Hi Christine and all ~ Wow you drink a lot of water. I too drink lots. Do you drink a high alkaline low acid water like Evian or Arrowhead? I found switching to these two waters has made a tremendous difference. I tested my old water Aqua Fina and found it to be acidic but soon as I switched I felt a difference. Also, I have two months ago started Elavil and when I added Adarax a few weeks after, I found it to be fery helpful with the spasms/frequency and pain. I take 10mg of the Elavil and 25mg of the Adarax. The Adarax is supposed to be helpful in reducing the mast cells in my bladder. The true test was whether the drugs would help with controling the pain when I resumed an IC friendly workout (eliptical machine and nautilus equipment--no free weights). I am very happy to report that along with back stretches for my bulging disc on the S1 L5 region (the nerve branch that is pinched which are connected to all the pelvic organs including the bladder) I have not flared at all (just a little discomfort later which I use my heat buddy to help sooth). I think I am done morning my old life which included long distance running and lots of tomatoes and expresso. I have learned to enjoy the gym, and fake expresso by Teachino. I feel like I have my life back finally. I truly hope that you have success with the Elavil as well. Have you considered the Adarax with the Elavil? I send well wishes to you and everyone.

I use a "hat" to measure too :D It's much easier than squatting and balancing a cup. I got my brother to swipe me one from the hospital, but I don't know where one would go about actually buying one.

My avg void is 100-150 cc's. Max is 350 cc's but I only did this once and was in very extreme pain. Nice to know I'm capable of it though.

I void every 2-3 hours on avg, more if flaring. I don't measure water intake, but based on these #'s it is easy to see I'm probably dehydrated. I hate drinking water, and it makes me pee every 10 mins if I drink a lot!
