View Full Version : What does your abdominal pain feel like?

Is it a dull pain, or a shooting pain. I've had pain in my very lower left abdomial area, kinda right above my pubic area. Last night it got a little worse, but this morning it's back to the dull pain. I also got a shooting pain in my vagina when I walked, but that also went away. This might sound stupid, but sometimes it's hard for me to figure out where the pain is coming from. Like it feels like it might be either my vagina or urethra. Is that normal, or am I just crazy?:loco:

Mine feels like severe menstrual cramps. It feels like my body is trying to push my bladder out.

Donna describes it exactly....like my body is trying to push my bladder out. I also have burning in my bladder when I'm flaring.

My pain/symptoms keep changing. Sometimes I get shooting/stabbing pain up in my Vagina after peeing OUCH (Main Complaint). Sometimes I just have mild abdominal pain.... Sometimes it's on the left side or on the right side. Sometimes I feel like I gotta go all the time. :loco: I get Urgency pain sometimes (Gotta Go Girl from the OAB comercials!). I wish my body would decide. :bonk: At least my pain doesnt usually last that long. Only once it lasted over 3 hours, but most of the time, the pain goes away quickly. :smile tee... The worst part is the testing and waiting for dx. So, I don't know if I'm typical IC or not, I don't even know if I have IC... but that's what my pain/symptoms are like. So far, my dx is bladder spasms and chronic hematuria.

Mine is somewhat like Donna's; very severe menstrual cramp-like sensation right over my pubic bone. Sometimes I also get the sensation that my bladder is aching in such a way that I can feel the exact shape of the bladder wall. This usually leads to an aching throughout my entire pelvis, and it can spread to my lower back and legs (but I have pelvic floor dysfunction, and this spreading is in part due to that).

I also have had shooting pains going up the vagina and urethra; I have described these as someone poking a knitting needle up inside me.

Jen hit the nail right on the head, or the knitting needle I should say, lol. I often tell my hubby that it feels like someone just poked my bladder or vagina with a knitting neddle. I really hate that feeling. Sometimes I just have pelvic pain that is a dull ache like a cramp and then there are times it is more sharp. I have really been getting the urethra pain when I am finishing peeing. It feels like someone is pinching the dickens out of my urethra right at the end. I really hate this new symptom. Gotta love IC!

It is so wonderful to hear people having the same symptoms as you! It is such a comfort. I also get a full, painful baldder feeling and it is worse first thing in the morning. Even though I might get up twice a night I must sleep through most of the bladder pain at night and my first pee in the morning is so painful but what a relief!

Jen did hit it on the head with the knitting needles, I usually tell people if feels like a metal rod up my urethra poking me, but it is more like pointy knitting needles. Thanks for the description. I will have to "steal" that description the next time I have to explain my pain.

I am so glad I am not going through this alone, isn't it amazing we have the same kind of pain and we can describe in different ways but basically it is the same.

This is a real naive question but, where exactly is the urethra? Is it right at the vagina opening, inside? I haven't seen a doctor or anything yet, have appt, but my pain is just right inside my vagina opening, like the walls kinda sting, not when i urinate though. None of the foods to avoid upset me. I only get the pain from sex or tampons, etc.

The urethra is above the vagina opening, it is where your urine comes out.

jjj2007 - Until a few weeks ago I also had no idea where my urethra was located. For 44 years, I blissfully had no reason to care exactly where it was located. The vagina and the urethra are both located inside the labia minora. I had always thought of the vagina and the labia minora as the same thing. I had no idea that the uretha was also located inside the labia minora. The problem is, it is impossible to see inside your own labia minora without using a mirror. But if you spread apart the labia minora and use a mirror you should be able to see the vagina and urethra. I wish I could go back to those carefree days when I didn't know where my urethra was. Sending healing energy...linda

I describe my pain as a backward UTI pain.. sort of a "suking in" feeling that hurts as I stop urinating.

Ive read most people seem to have their pain feel like cramps, my pain is like a horrible burning pain in my lower abdomen and through my urethra. I havent been diagnosed with IC but I have a history of UTIs pretty much once or twice a month, and I have pain just like a UTI without the infection. Sex isnt really painful unless I have and infection and even then it doesnt really hurt my vagina much just irritates my urethra. Does this sound like IC?

I wouldn't really call mine pain but discomfort instead.. everything just feels full and bloated but then occassionally during a flare I will have the really really quick poke with the knitting needle and then it is gone, before i even have time to think about how it hurt, its gone and Im thanking god it didn't last longer than it did

I have a few different pains. Most days my pelvic just feels sore and there's a lot of pressure in my lower abdomen. When it's bad, it feels like my bladder just exploded, it's not cramping... i can tell it's not, pressure, stabbing, all kinds of good stuff.
I do get burning and soreness throughout my urethra when i'm flaring. Sometimes I get shooting pains in my vagina/pelvic floor area.

Knitting needle? Hahaha that's a much more sane way to put it. I tell my fiance that it feels like there are gnomes in there and they're having a dance party and they keep poking me with their hats :biglaugh:

Im starting to get worried I may have something else as well because I feel like I have a dull pain above my pubic bone that also feels like it is infected but what is the most annoying to me is the feeling like the urethra is also infected. I cant seem to pinpoint what the problem is anymore or where it is It just feels like everything is infected including the clitoris so because I feel so infected dont feel like sex with my husband at all. Also when I go to the toilet sometimes it feels like I could sit there all day and keep pushing little bits of urine out after ive finished. Does this sound normal im starting to worry.

Mine feels like I am in constant labor and am trying to give birth to my bladder. It sometimes feels like it puching out and going to land on the floor. I also have some sharp stabbing pain, and alot of pain on the right side.......not sure why?
I hope this helps.......
I hope you feel better..........

does anyone only have pain in their ovaries? I feel like if I do have pain it is only in the ovary location...never really in the middle abdomen/bladder area.
