I'm so upset. I've been feeling so much better lately. Now I've got that constant feeling like I have to go and some pressure. The only thing I can think of that put me into this flare is the Urocit-K Dr. Whitmore gave me. It's the only thing new I've taken.
Earlier when I posted about my visit to Dr. Whitmore it was only a slight feeling, now it's bad and I'm so mad  Not at her, just at everything. I don't want to go into the depression I was in a couple months ago.

Has anyone flared from Urocit? Has Nortriptyline helped anyone? That's the other med she gave me I haven't tried yet. I really don't want to unless someone says it really helped them. I don't want to get to that desperate stage again either cussing

God!! I just want to be normal again!!!
:( :(

Hi Erin,

Sorry you are feeling so miserable. :( That really stinks, feel like your in a remission, enjoying it, and then dragged back into a flare! :( Awful!!!

About the nortriptyline, my understanding is that it is like amitryptiline. Not sure though.

Feel better!

Hugs and love,
Jess

Antidepressant medications can be a real benefit for pain. Our doctor explains that one of the actions of antidepressants is to interfere with the nerve receptors, thus easing pain. My husband takes a very low dose for arthritis and it really helps him --- he has been able to substantially reduce the amount of pain medications.

Sending an encouraging hug,
Donna

Thanks Donna and Jess.

Does it help with urgency and frequency or spasms? I don't have pain. Maybe she gave it to me to help with pain during sex along with the PT for overall getting better?

Erin

BTW, I'm feeling better this morning. Thanks for letting me get that out. grouphug

Erin,
Glad you are doing better this morning. I don't know anything about the meds so hopefully someone else will chime in.

Anything that will help you relax should help with spasms and frequency --- and antidepressants can also do that.

Sending healing thoughts,

Erin,
So sorry you are having such a time of it...My Uro. has just given me a script for amitryptiline (elavil) to take at night. It is my understanding that it and nortryptiline are in the same class of anti-depressants (tricylics). My Dr. told me that the small dose he wants me to take at night should help with my frequency/urgency and spasms that tend to keeep me up and going to the restroom all night. I have not started the med, yet, but will keep you posted. As Donna mentioned, my mom takes it at night for her arthritis and fibro, and it seems to help her...I also know of several others that take the tricyclic anti-depressants for pain problems and have good luck with them, also.
Good luck to you,
Kandy

Thanks Everyone hi

I took the Nortrip. last night. Obviously nothing yet. I figured I'd give it a try and stop when I find out I'm pregnant. (Dr said that was OK to do.)
I had a thought though as to why I'm flaring. Is yogurt a no-no? I saw it on the list as a no-no but I though maybe it was just the low-fat ones because of the artificial sweetners. I've been eating one a day for about 4 days because of the antibiotics I'm on. Maybe it wasn't the Urocit-K Dr. Whitmore gave me? OOOOPPS! eek
We'll see. Today is my last day of antibiotics. YAY!!! :) :)

Hang in there!!!! kissing I hope you feel better soon. I really do! I like to eat lots of yogurt because sometimes with a bladder infection or reg. pain, I feel like I have a yeast infection even though it isn't one. So I eat yogurt because they say to do that to prevent or help yeast infections. I hate them, and I would do anything to not get one even though I don't think that's what it is. Like I said I can't stand yeast infections and I'll try anything to make it go away or even to prevent one coming on. The slightest itch in that region and I'm sucking down yogurt. Hey, I haven't had a yeast infection in ages, though. Maybe I'm doing something right!

I didn't know it could cause flares, though. If so, stay away from it! I will, too, even though I don't have a big problem with the stuff I eat. At least not that I know of. I've been feeling 90% better for a couple months now. I'm in a remission! Before that I didn't realize food caused flares and then when I did I didn't know how to find out which foods I should keep away from. Different people have different sensitivities I think even though there's a list of general things all women with IC should stay away from. I guess I just haven't noticed any connections yet because I was never looking. When I do start to feel bad again then I will do a little investigation to find out which foods make me worse and whatever. So, if you are one of those women that can pinpoint your foods, that's great. Check to see if yogurt even makes you flare before you stop eating it because it's good for you and prevents those dreadful yeast infections from happening. And with us already feeling weird in that region sometimes because of flares and such why let another ailment make you even more miserable. Well, sorry I wrote a book! I tend to ramble on these message boards. Hang in there. kissing grouphug

Hi Erin, sorry you are going through a rough time right now. I also am eating yogurt as I am on antibiotics also, so far so good. I agree with the gals about the anti depressants, they do help me with my pain, and the docs seem to use them now for helping with the nerve receptors. Hope that you can find some relief soon, yeast infections are the pits, along with a flare, no fun at all. Keep us posted as to how you are doing, take care, feel better soon, hugs Iris hi grouphug

Yogurt is helpful but rather like trying to bail out a ship with a teaspoon. You might wish to investigate some stronger probiotics.

I took elavil for a while and stopped it because I couldn' tell that big of a difference of it helping. It made me feel lousy in the morning. It would take forever to get awake and then forever to get the day going!!!!!!! Good Luck!!!!!!!

I can relate! This wretched thing came out of nowhere about an hour ago!

I'm just writhing in pain. I envy people who know what their triggers are - I haven't a clue!

Elavil made me live in a fog. No matter what the doseage I was always groggy, and yet it works wonders for some, which is great. :D
