What is the name of this drug? Is it for pain or used the same as Peridium? Is it safer than Peridium? If so, how?
Just wondered. My doctor never heard of a drug that turns your pee blue. He won't give me any more Peridium b/c he says its very bad to use long term. I told him I used it 5 days in a row and I thought he'd have a stroke. :loco:

Drugs that turn pee blue include Urised, Urelle, and UTA capsules. There are slight differences in the composition of each of these, but they all are blue. The blue dye functions the same as the orange one in Pyridium -- it's a urinary tract analgesic -- but these "blue" medications tend to have some other ingredients in them like anti-spasmodics, antiseptics, and the like.
Pyridium IS dangerous to take for the long term. At the very least, you can turn your eyes and skin orange, believe it or not. Worse, the orange dye interacts with hemoglobin in red blood cells, so that they can become less able to carry oxygen to your body over time ... and the dye can also cause liver problems after a while as well.
The blue meds have been shown to be safer for longer term use. :)

Hmmm. 5 days in a row? I know my doctors have allowed that much when I had a bad Uti. This drug can be bought over the counter.
As for the blue stuff. I doubt it is for long term use either, but the one i had was called urogesic blue.

Urimar-T is the one I use. It does turn the urine blue. I have been taking it 4 years, so I hope it is okay long term, but your Dr. can tell you for sure. Urimar-T has several things in it. The first turns your pee blue and keeps it from burning. Then, it contains hycosamine, a mild mucscle relaxor for the bladder, and it also has an antibacterial in it to help ward off UTIs. It also contains formaldahyde, but I am not sure what it does for living people, but as you will remember from Biology classes, it is used to preserve things. It has a few other ingrediants too, but that is the jist of it.
Anyway, I have been on it for a long time. It can be taken 3 times a day. It has helped me alot and is the one I prefer. It does require a prescription.
I think there are other ones that turn the urine blue too, but I have never used them, so I may be wrong about that.
Hope this helps!
Hugs,
Amy

I take urised, and have been since 2oo1. It works so much better then the prydium, and it is a safer one to use.
