Title: It was worse than childbirth
It's rare to have an article that discusses IC, much less a family struggle with this puzzling condition. In the April 2007 issue of Woman's Day, sisters Michelle McDuffee & Mia Eddy share their courageous stories of life with interstitial cystitis, how their symptoms began and how they found care and relief. Great to share with family & friends. Available at newstands today! (pages 46-47)

I just bought the magazine when we were at the grocery store yesterday. It's a short article but it's better than no article at all. I think I will keep it on hand to show to family and friends. I think I may even show my parents the ICN when they come next weekend.

My mom showed me that article Thursday. She read it while in the wating room at my PT place. Ironically I had severe urgency and was running to the bathroom when she showed me. Thought it was interesting.

Jill: Great news - on my way out the door to get it.
I just wish more magazines & TV programs would cover it, because even though I have 4 letters from doctors explaining why I'm on medications & what IC & PFD is, many still don't understand it & really don't want to even hear about it, and this has been going on for over 10 years now.Ugh. Thanks for the info,
Weezer

Hello
I went and bought the magazine and was disappointed because it was such a short artical and really did not list the symptoms and how long IC patients really have to suffer before someone will believe them that there is really pain inside them. We need someone a movie star that has IC needs to be our spokes person to help us find a cure .

Hi! I am so glad that some magazines are starting to talk about IC. Prevention magazine had an article about IC in Dec. 1998 or Jan. 1999(not sure of exact date). When I first started having symtoms of IC my husband was reading Prevention and handed me the article and said "I think this is what you have". It is time for them to do another article on it. My brother was in Med school at the time I was going from doctor to doctor trying to figure out what I had. He said that IC was just barely mentioned. Since then he said it is amazing how many people he has run into that have IC. Med Schools have got to start educating our doctors about IC. OK, I will get off my soap box now.

Actually, I think some med schools MUST be making more a big deal out of it. When I went in for my annual at my gyn's office, they gave me one of the physicians aids (basically a student gyn). When she was poking my stomach etc. before the exam she asked me about any conditions or medications I tentatively said (because I was expecting a cross examination over this...
"Well, I have interstitial cystitis...."
"I can tell, your bladder is a bit tough and very tender."
And that was IT!!! She was TOTALLY familiar with the condition, and made no fuss whatsoever. Every other gyn/ or other doctor I've had has either just recently read about it in a journal and therefore asks a lot of questions, or have never heard about it and asks a lot of questions. I was in shock..... So I think I'm going to start LOOKING for younger doctors if the need ever arises again.

I picked up the April issue of Woman's Day and could not find the article. Maybe because I have a Canadian issue? My copy says April 17, 2007 and has colorful Easter eggs on the front.

Kate ..
I had the same problem... Mine also had the easter eggs on the cover.. I am from Louisiana..Strange though..lol
My last few trips to the ER, the doctors & nurses all knew about IC.
Most said upfront that they don't have a lot of knowledge, but they do know it is very painful. Progress.
Better than 4 years ago when I first got IC, didn't know what I had, horrible pain & bladder spasms, went to the ER in the middle of the night, negative urine test at the hospital ER, negative culture, sent home with antibiotics anyhow, then spent several months battling the insurance bill for the "non-emergency" visit.

Hey,
Thats the wrong April issue. The IC article is in the issue dated April 1st. Women's Day sometimes has more than one issue a month. I hope that helps.

...what is on the U.S. cover? I know Jill said it's the April issue....I'll keep looking. If they happen to put it on their website...it would be nice so I can email it to friends and family.
Thanks,
Dani

Saronjini (Jen) has mentioned doing this somewhere below her signature. I think it's a wonderful idea. I emailed the Oprah show a few days ago and some other people did the same. I just keep thinking...people watch Oprah. There needs to be someone 'high-profile' to bring IC to the public. She is very good at educating and making the public aware of womens' cries for help! We need a loud voice calling out in this wilderness (referring to the general public and some of the medical community who either don't know about IC or don't really care!)
