I just found out today (I'm away at college) that my dog, Duchess, has ingested poison some time on Sunday during her walk. She started having seizures and throwing up blood in the middle of the night and my family took her to the doggie ER. Two specialists later they gave her a blood transfusion, and platelet transfusion and she got better. However, today she is doing worse as she has bleeding on her brain and is in a coma. She is no longer making her own tears etc. and they are giving her 48hrs before giving up.
Please pray that she will get better, that dog is my life. She's a tiny Chinese Crested dog that is only 9yrs old... she should have a long and happy life ahead of her.
I'm beyond furious that my family kept this from me (because that's what my mom wanted) because I have 3 exams this week. My beloved Duchess is much more important than school though. I can't go home until tommorow either because I have an exam in the morning, one which the professor does NOT give makeups. It doesn't help that it's the Friday before our Spring Break so I don't think ANY of my professors believe that my dog really is sick. I just wish my family would have told me earlier because this particular professor does give exams earlier, so I would have been able to take the early exam on Wednesday.
I found out today because my mom is in South Africa visiting family and her mother in law answered the phone and said "Is Duchess dead yet?"
needless to say I'm BEYOND upset

Oh honey don't be to hard on your mother. I know it must been hard on her to decide to tell you or not. Believe me, even if she is wrong in your thinking, she only did it, thinking it would be best for you. That is a tough decision to make and I know it was not easy for her to make that choice.
I hope you dogs will be fine, and I know you love that dog, they do become greatly part of us. My heart goes out to you too, I know you are really worry. Will be praying.
Hugs, Trishann

Duchess died this afternoon at around 4pm.
I've been crying constantly ever since, I don't think my eyes could be any puffier.
I have a horrible math exam tommorow morning and I just don't know how I'm going to do it :(
I miss Duchess so much, I was so excited about seeing her over Spring Break. It just wasn't her time yet.

I am thinking about you. Pets are family. We aren't allowed cats where we live (yet we can have my dog...okaaaaaaaay), so my kitties are with my parents. My cat Peaches died 9.11.05, away from me and I was crushed. The best thing to do is keep PHOTOS around and make a list of all the funny things your pet has done - and all the nicknames he had. It helps keep good memories alive. Also, make a page on catster.com or dogster.com for them...
Take care,
Tracy
Oh, I am SO sorry, saucasa. It's awful that it happened at all, but especially during a time when you were away from her. Are you able to do any kind of special memorialization for her when you are home over Spring Break? I hope so. :kissing:

Well, we are having a private cremation for her this week and they did her paw print in clay with her nicknames on it....
We're going to scatter her ashes when my mom gets back from South Africa, having her urn sit on a table for the next 30yrs just doesn't seem right....
Thanks for all the kind words. I'm doing better but I think I'm just in the denial phase, she really doesn't seem gone because all her toys are around the house still and on our front porch is a sign "a spoiled rotten chinese crested lives here" etc... I really miss her at night time when I expect her to just crawl into my arms or when I'm eating something and expect her wet little nose to be sniffing at my ankles or for her to be jumping up to see what's going on...
