I am wanting opinions from people who have tried those feather mattress toppers and/or the foam mattress toppers. I am so achy at nite, I am thinking a softer mattress would help. Our current mattress is 5 yrs old. It is a pillow top, and was pretty expensive. (It was $3800 for the set, but I won it in a sales contest, when I worked at the furniture store. They let whoever won pick out whatever set they wanted, as a prize. So, I picked the top of the line, of course!) So, it is good set, but naturally, it gets WAY more use with me, than it would get from a healty person. It is my "home base". So, it is really important for me to be comfortable there.
I was thinking about trying a mattress topper (feather or foam), to see if it would help soften it up. I want something really plush and soft. I didnt know if they were worth the hype or not. I was hoping some of you may have one or slept on one and might be willing to give me your opinion on them, if you liked it or not.
Thanks for your help!
Hugs,
Amy

Amy... I will say this I bought a memory foam topper for my bed, because I always woke up hurting or my arms would go to sleep... It has been wonderful...It has even helped my husbands back. He used to wake up hurting now he does not... I got my mom one for Christmas and she loves it.. So I know it works great for my family... And the cost is not bad. I paid 70 dollars for a queen size.. You can get them at Wal-mart... Good luck finding something...:smile tee

I'm chiming in on the foam mattress topper. I got mine in Bed, Bath & Beyond. I actually got it because I stayed at a friend's house and she had it, and it was SO great. Then my sister was sitting on my bed and going, "Oh, this mattress is so comfortable, what kind is it?" So - yup - she's off buying the foam toppers. And I had to buy one for my daughter, too, because she loved mine so much! Word of mouth really works sometimes, I guess.
Feathers make me sneeze and they also worry me -- it's just awful if you get a tear in the seam and the feathers start floating around all over! I remember that happening a couple of times at my grandmother's house. I'd be going, "Achoo, ick, achoo, ick..." and she'd be running around trying to catch the little white feathers -- thinking back, it was actually a pretty funny scene, but I wouldn't want to reconstruct it!

Carolyn,
Glad to know you like yours too, (and that your family also likes it!) I am going to go looking this afternoon, if I get to feeling better.
By the way, I have been meaning to ask, what does your user name mean? And also, what do the words in your sig mean? Just curious!
Thanks again for letting me know you like yours too!
Hugs,
Amy

I have a featherbed. Tom hates it, but I worship the thing. We have a pillowtop mattress too, and we just got it a few months ago. The problem I have putting the featherbed on top of that pillowtop is finding sheets that will cover all of it, and stay put! I'm in that bed a lot, too, and it HAS to be as comfy as possible. I could probably get by with just the new pillowtop but I'm so used to just sinnnnnnnnnking in the bed surrounded by feathers. ahhhhhhhhh :)

Sandy, That sounds nice. I am wanting something really plush and cooshy. (Is cooshy a word? LOL!) You know what I mean! I think I may buy both and try them, and return the one that I dont like. However, I will probobly have the same problem you do, since my Mattress is 21" deep. (Already, I have to special order sheets, since the standard deep-pocket ones dont fit.) If I go any deeper, I am probobly going to have to start sewing my own sheets. But, I would do it, if I could get the bed really comfy. Thanks for your input!! Hugs, Amy

Sewing? People still do that? LOL I really can barely even thread a needle to put a button on! :) Where do you order your sheets? Right now we only buy the one's that state "deep pocket for pillowtop mattress"...or, I use King sheets on our Queen bed...that works pretty well too.

Hey Amy...
They now make sheets that fit thick mattresses or mattresses with a topper.. You can get them at Target, Bed bath and Beyond or Walley World..Just look for the ones that say deep pockets...:smile tee

Amy, my user name actually just means something like "whoever" or "anyone." I kept trying to submit user names, about five times they were rejected because they were already in use. So I got kind of irritated and went, "Ok, how about this? Can I be whoever? I've regretted it ever since; I really don't like it.
The signature line means, "I wish you happiness, good health, and all the best in life."

Carolyn, I can help you change your user name if you'd like me to. Just let me know. You can include the old one in your signature so people will know who you are.
I was having a problem keeping the bottom sheet in place on our bed and I finally solved the problem by buying some one inch wide elastic. I cut two pieces of elastic about 2 1/2 feet shorter than the mattress, then sewed one end of each piece of elastic the "head of the bed" end of the bottom sheet, about half way between the center and the edge, then the other end of the elastic to the other end of the sheet. So when the sheets are on the bed, the elastic goes under the mattress and keeps the sheet nice and snug and in place. I have a friend who uses a pair of suspenders to keep hers in place, but the elastic is easier to handle.

Donna, Great idea for the sheets! I am going to have to sew SOMETHING soon anyway, b/c Collin asked me the other day, "Mommy what's that machine upstairs for?" When I told him it's a sewing machine, he asked me what I needed it for, since I dont sew. After I told him that I DO sew, he was incredulous, since he has never actually witnessed it! So, time to stitch up something to prove the kid wrong! :lmao:
I did get the mattress topper. I got to the store, but couldnt decide, so I bought 2 different feather ones, and two that are fiber/foam filled, (sort of like the stuff inside really soft pillows), since they said I could return whichever ones we didnt like. We ended up keeping the fiber filled ones for 2 of the beds. We really like it. It makes the bed alot softer. The only trouble is getting the fitted sheet to stay on. But, I think Donna's idea will do the trick. I think I am going to give it a shot!
Thanks again, everyone for all your help!!
Hugs,
Amy
P.S. Carolyn, I like your name and sig, now that I know what they mean! :)

I have the deep pocketed sheets from Christmas and we love them! I have two sets for our bed. Now I don't want to go back to the regular ones!
Have a Nice Day.
