In response to the tremendous outpouring of support and condolences in the memory of ICN Asst. Manager Diane Manhattan-Lopresti who was tragically taken from us on October 16, 2003, we are creating this new program to honor her memory. Diane was a true IC angel. She belived in angels and she believed in support. She inspired others to keep trying. When a patient was down, she lifted them up. When a patient was confused, she offered helpful information. When a patient was crying, she gladly shared her shoulders for anyone to lean on.

An IC Angel is someone who cares. Someone who believes, in their very heart of hearts, that noone should suffer alone. Someone who is willing to lend a helping hand, a moment to talk, a a supportive email, a chat in our chat room or an orientation for a newly diagnosed patient. An IC Angel is also a role model, a patient who is active and involved in the IC movement. They may run a support group or perhaps just offer support by email. When an idea strikes, they share it with others to get them motivated and involved. They might write an article, create a new resource or share a helpful tip. An IC Angel believes that by working together we can make a difference.

On the ICN, our IC Angels will honor Diane's memory by maintaining her legacy of action. These aren't daily jobs.. and they can be temporary or may just need one task done. But, these are the projects that Diane and I had talked about. Real needs for real IC patients of all ages. You might help by running a support group or by contributing a story that helps to explain IC to children. Disability rights, job hunting (or how to work from home), how to locate affordable medications.

What's needed?? VOLUNTEERS!!!! Here are a few of the categories

(1) Support Group Angels
(2) Support Group Coordinator
(3) Newbie Angels
(4) Angels for the Children with IC
(5) Teen Angel
(6) Senior Angel
(7) Angels Who Work At Home
(8) IC Angels of the Airwaves
(9) Angels for Low Income Patients
(10) Angels for the Holidays

I have been in a terrible IC flare for the last 6 weeks or so, but to give back to someone who was always there telling me my life wasn't over, and who always tried to pick me up when I fell, it would be an honor! TO DIANE!!!

The whole world will hear us, and if they plug their ears, we'll use sign language!!

I agree with Kelli.
It could help to keep a more possitive out look.
This is a great idea.
Take care, Zookeeper Kim

I would be honored to help in any way that I can. This site has given my life back to me by allowing me to finally have the knowledge to get a diagnosis and not be told it is all in my head. Thank God for all of you and especially Diane who is now watching over all of us. We are truly lucky to have each other.

I have signed up and look forward to doing my part.

Love and hugs to all of you.

(Here's a note from Diane's twin sister Elaine that she asked me to share with you about the IC Angels program and perhaps a new fund in Diane's name that we can use to honor her memory)

Dear Jill, Thank you for replying to my letter, like I wrote what ever I can do. I believe that a scholarship program would be wonderful, and I think the whole family would be grateful to meet with you, after all, she loved you like you were her own.

I woke up this morning and I said to God, thank you that you love us so much that you give us a second home after this one is finished. Diane remembers no more pain and she is never in the dark but surrounded by the light of Gods throne. Hallaluia. God has a room for her in his mansion as well as for you and me and one day of his choosing we will be in that same mansion that she is in know. Please keep in touch. Its very hard. I have to stop crying.

Also Diane NEVER talked about her involvement with IC we never knew how wonderful she
was toward this great effort. Diane never let the sunshine on her self, she only gave the sunshine.

PLEASE thank members who have sent the letters to Russ and the wonderful Emails, he is so comforted by them. He himself is in awe over the love
Diane had all over the world, as well as Andy, Kathy, Wendy, my mom and Dad, and of course me her twin sister.

Jill you may pass along this message on your website. God bless every one who has this disease and may a cure be found quickly.

That was a beautiful letter from Diane's sister, and I think a scholarship is a wonderful idea to honor her memory, and the work she did for everyone. Thank you so much for posting, take care and a hug Iris hi grouphug
