My Rhematologist's office just called. The nurse said that I have a severe Vitamin D deficency. She is calling in something to my pharmacy. I had no idea that they even tested for this. She said that about 70% of the patients that they check are in fact deficient in Vitamin D. Who knew? She said that Vitamin D deficiency can be linked to several things, including (but not limited to): chronic pain, osteoporosis, automimmune diseases, rickets, some cancers, depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder, and many other things.
I am glad my Rhem stays on top of this stuff and checks for things like that. If not, there is no telling how long I would continue to be deficient, and it would just be missed.
Anyway, thought I'd pass the word to make sure that you guys get checked for this, if you havent been recently. After all, you never know!
Hugs,
Amy

Hi Amy, now that is something interesting..... I wonder if when your Vitamin levels get back up to a more normal level that you'll feel better?
Vitamin D is also found in sunshine....when my son was very young he had really bad bowed legs. The doctor told me to give him plenty of milk and sunshine, as the both contain high amounts of Vitamins A & D. His legs straightened out without any other treatment thankfully!
Why don't you plan on a trip here to the Sunshine State to visit ChrissySunshine??!!! We'll get some Vitamin D into your body! Seriously, let me know when you'll be here! Love and Hugs, Chris

Chris,
I am wondering the same thing. Wouldn't it be crazy if all I need is to be drinking more milk and getting outside a little more and then I'd be feeling better! LOL! But, I read a little about Vitamin D deficiency last night, and it can cause severe bone pain and bad muscle pains (which I have.) So, maybe there is something to it. ???? I have to go pick up a script today for mega amounts of D. (She said I am so severely deficient right now that I need R/X amounts to get back to normal levels. I dont know the qty of the pills, but the nurse said she also gave me 1 refill and I would need to take it too, to get where I need to be.) Pretty bizarre, huh?
I would love to come down there!! Maybe that's why all the old people who are aching head on down to your Sunny state! I know the cold makes them hurt worse. (And we all know how the old people love it hot in their houses!! I think the older people get, the hotter their houses are. :) ) Guess they are on to something!

My mom has RA and her Dr. told her the same thing. I think I posted on it a while back. Her energy levels skyrocketed within two weeks, so we think that must've been it.
I got a whole lot of "be careful" warnings when I posted, even though I specifically said I had discussed it with my own doctor before starting to supplement myself, and I also got one PM from someone who told me to stop immediately for a whole lot of reasons that were all based on bad science. Glad you're getting a better reception!
It has made a HUGE difference for my mom and some difference for me, so you should be optimistic. I had always known that I felt better in the summer than at any other time; now I think that may be the reason. More sunshine.
I'm really glad your Dr. was on top of this and I hope it helps!

I must have missed your other post. I wish I saw it, but to tell you the truth, I probobly woundnt have thought that it would have pertained to me at the time. I guess I just would have thought that it was not likely to be something that would be a problem of mine, since I have been taking a multivitamin and even a calcium supplement for the past couple of years. But, I guess there is no substitute for getting a bit of sun and drinking some milk, huh?
Thanks for your reply. I hope that I will feel alot better soon too. I am encouraged to hear that you and your Mom both felt dramatically better after you guys started taking it. :)
Hugs,
Amy

My Endocronologist asked me if I was on Calcium & Vit D because of my age
(53). I told her I take Calcium but not Vit D. She told me that Calcium alone is not going to help for bone health without the Vit D.
FYI

GinnyYep, that's what they told me too when I asked how it was possible when I have been on the Calcium supplement. At least I found out now rather than 20 years from now. I had my hysterectomy when I was 33, so I have only been on Calcium for 2 yrs w/o the Vitamin D. ( I still dont know how I didnt get it from the multi vitamin though! )
