OMG! I have been on this drug for a few days. It is abosolutley killing my appetite. Food is not even appealing...The problem is I am an endurance athlete, and its hard for me to get enough food now...Does anyone else experience appetite loss with this? How long did it last?

Thanks

I was going to get on it, but my doctor said that one of the side effects were it made you not hungry and made your blood pressure higher, so I couldnt take it..

Geesh, I wish I would have that side-effect, lol. Maybe I do, and just eat snacks out of habit or when I am bored... I wish I could help you out a bit more, I am sure some others will chime in with their experiences!! ;)

I noticed the appetite loss the first couple of months on Wellbutrin, but unfortunately for me, my appetite came back. Yours probably will be back pretty soon, which sounds like a good thing for you!

I think maybe other meds have overridden the side effect of loss of appetite. I was told that it would help me with my weight gain. It hasn't. I wish it had.

That is a fab idea - pack the calories in a smaller package - and no chewing involved!! ;)

I didn't experience a loss of appetite either! Boo. I'm figuring that all the other meds side effects are overriding the wellbutrin. I have a good friend who is on nothing else and has lost a ton of weight. Why not me?!

Too bad we can't donate fat like we donate blood.

I have a friend who thought that if you fry bacon and it shrivels up - fat burns off - why can 't that happen if you sit out in the sun and fry? She was always hoping for a miracle with the fat burn.

But that does make great sense! :) Only thing that seems to happen is our skin shrivels up, :) :) :)

Hi,

Just reading around the site today trying to get some new ideas on treatment. I have been on Elavil for about 6 months and at first it worked very well, but I have had a horrible past month or so. What does the Wellbutrin help with?

Depression and anxiety...for me, getting these problems under control, helps me to be hopefull instead of depressed about the IC. I look forward to treatments now because I am hopefull something will work for me. It doesn't help me with the pain of IC or my other symptoms, but "dealing" with the IC is much easier now. Im no longer hopeless.

Wellbutrin is an antidepressant that is in a different class from elavil, which is a tricyclic antidepressant. Tricyclics relieve pain by blocking the pain messages from the nerves. How much elavil are you taking? Find out if you can use a higher dose. You might even try a different type of tricyclic, such as pamelor (amytriptilene) and see if you respond to that. I used Pamelor for about 10 years until it stopped being effective. After about 6 months, I started taking elavil, and it's working for me. I don't know how long it will continue to work, however, so I'm thinking ahead about what comes next.

The only side effect I had with it was constipation, it got so bad that I had to stop taking it after I doubled my fiber intake within a week of starting the medication.

It killed my appetite completely. Unfortunately it raised my anxiety and my blood pressure terribly, as well as turning me into a monster to my kids and everyone.

How has Wellbutrin worked on ICers? I am thinking of switching from Elavil to Wellbutrin because of the food cravings I am having constantly at 5-10 mg of Elavil. Does it help for burning?

I also read from the Wellbutrin website that increased urination can happen. Has that occurred with anyone? I am already a peebody.

Every antidepressant I took helped with my urgency but not much else. Most just made me very tired & lacking energy causing more depression.:cat:

I have taken Paxil before for depression after my second child. I was a peebody back then. Of course, I could have had IC without knowing it. It did nothing for urgency. I am currently on Elavil because of my intense uretrhal burning, but Elavil doesn't help me with frequency. I was feeling better on Elavil, but I don't want to get fat.

I have been off Elavil for two days because of not wanting to feel hungry all day long, but since being off, I am feeling depressed because my burning has been bothering me for a week again. I am also feeling sad because my kids are growing up fast.

I take Wellbutrin and have lost almost 10 lbs. I used to take Paxil to help my moods but it caused me to gain weight. I then started taking Wellbutrin because I had heard it caused no weight gain or sexual side effects. It doesn't do much for my moods but the weight loss makes up for it and I plan to take it as long as I can. Wellbutrin is is the only med I take because fortunately, my IC is under control and doesn't cause me much pain anymore.

Cricket,

How long have you been on Wellbutrin and how many milligrams? Are you taking the generic version? Did the doctor put you on it for depression or because of IC? Again, I have been on Elavil for almost 4 months, but the past month is when the sweet cravings kicked in.
