I have been suffering with flares + that terrible feeling of frequency and urgency ( the worst is when you feel like you have to go right after you went). I know what it feels like when you would rather die than go another day like this. I have studied alot about IC and have tried alot through trial and error. I have found a remedy that reduced my pain from 7-9 to 1 or 2 !!!
Please try some/all of my ideas as they work better collectively.
IC is complicated! Many doctors believe that it begins with a UTI/Baldder infection. But what makes us different is that our bodies' immunities were weaker, i.e. due to stress, sickness, etc. So, when that stress on the body occures, the infection will go into the cells of your bladder. Then your body must fight two things. 1. the infection still in your bladder ( now undetectable). 2. the auto immune response that is kicked off by your own body, attacking the protein lining of your bladder. This causes many foods/drinks to now irritate your bladder. Yes there is no cure but you must not loose hope, you are not doomed!!!
First, you must work hard at making your body strong, so you must reduce your stress. Watch funny movies ( I like Will Ferrel ones) get your self to laugh out loud at them, not working? Then rent a funnier one! Don't be in despair thinking you'll never get better. If you are flaring, try your absolute best not to freak out and keep yourself busy by constantly trying different things. Figure which works best, heating pad or cold pac ( freeze H2O in a ziplock bag). once you figure that out, use it all the time and have faith in that ( reduce stress). a hot bath always helps me alot. Take extra strength enteric coated fish oil capsuls 2-4 a day and plenty of H2O all the time. For symptoms of urgency and frequency, I have been using medicinal herbs that help soothe my bladder . I really like native remidies I have alot of faith in herbal medicine. you also need an immunity booster with non acidic Vitimin C (important that it does not irritate you). Get one or both. If you are fighting both the infection and your autoimmune, you need two combatants, strong immunity and a significant reduction in stress. Give yourself a fighting chance. If you tend to get really stressed and you can't control it get ****, it takes immediate action to calm you. Also, they have stress reduction cd's and DVDs!!! You Mustfollow the IC diet!!!! other links will tell you about it. Lastly, you need to believe you will get better, have hope. During bad flares, get the bible and go in the back and find every scripture about healing. God is real, I know it for a fact !!! I can proove it !! So, find those scriptures, read them, and meditate on the words, say them outloud ( words spoken outloud are much stronger). Make youself focus on those words of healing and realize that it is talking about you. your healing, your own remission!!! Finally, make yourself worthy of such a healing, we are all sinners. Pray for others, people that you don't even know (i.e. maybe on the news, maybe an elderly person you see-everyone needs prayers). Be truely unselfish and God will hear your own prayers louder and clearer. I notice when I pray, my symptoms lessen! Okay, thats what I do, I hope all/some of this can help you. I've already prayed for each and everyone of you (my steps to remission). God Bless

Caution: Advil or other NSAIDS can be very irritating to IC patients. Also, do check out any herbal remedies with your physician as they may interact with conventional medicines.

Many doctors no longer believe that IC is caused by infection. In my case, my IC was triggered off by stopping a birth control pill I'd been on for 10 years. My mom's was set off by stopping hormone replacement therapy. I had not had a bladder infection in 30 years when I got IC, so the infection theory is not applicable to everyone.

The positivity suggestions are good. Though prayer has not lessened my symptoms, it's still a good thing.

I'm glad that all of these things help you so much. Just a comment, Vitamin C can be very irritating to an IC bladder, and while it does help boost your immune response to colds, etc, it does come with side effects on our already sensitive bladders....not to everyone, but to many of us.

Also, anyone that is thinking of using any sort of natural/herbal remedies needs to make certain that it's safe to take by talking to a doctor or pharmacist. These drugs come with no warning labels to tell us what RX's are safe to take...i.e. St. John's Wort and Prozac type drugs. Nobody knew that until people were overdosing.

I'm not saying these things don't work for people, I'm sure that they do for some, it's just risky to take a med of any sort that's not controlled by the FDA and the only studies and claims are done by the makers of the herbs themselves.

I'm sorry you feel that it's necessary to subscribe to a bible-based faith in order to be cured of IC. I hope someday your heart and your mind will be broadened.

It sounds like you do not personally subscribe to a "Bible based" faith as a way some people find effective in healing from IC and its effects. But wouldn't considering this as effective for some people be a way to broaden your own heart and mind?

Just a friendly caution - let's be careful to not tread into debate over what faith system people choose to subscribe or not to subscribe to. Let's limit discussion to what has helped us individually and not to what other people should or should not do.

yikes Vitamin C!! thats a quick way to spell flair for me..
Its good to be able to read a post on what others do to help themselves..
Trying to be stress free is very helpful to alleviate pain, sometimes tho it just is not possible.. if you can get relaxed and take your pain pills, grab your heating pad and watch a good movie, that sometimes will take your mind off of your pain.
Thanks for sharing your strategies and helpful hints

I am very happy for anyone who's faith has helped them through the rough times that we all share, and I am in fact one of those people. And in the Unitarian/Universalist tradition, we respect all peoples and all faiths.

I think to be on the safe side this conversation should end. Everyone has their own personal beliefs but this really isn't the place to have a discussion about it. I hope everyone understands and doesn't take this personally.
