Sharon--hey there girly!..:hi: So, you and the hubby just cant seem to get enough of the cabin, huh? I can surely understand that simply by the pics you posted. It looks incredibly peaceful! I'm thinking that if I catch the next plane out, I can meet y'all there...keep the light on for me!:D
Tracey--I'm starting to get a bit concerned about your lunches as of late. :biglaugh: Mainly because I'm never invited to join in! :help:
Now, upon your request I will certainly keep my eyes peeled for the men in uniform; that includes both military and chefs!.. Your obsession with them there Deen boys is starting to worry me as well. You know though that they're always on the road (Road Tasted!) so you might want to keep your eyes focused as well-one never knows where they'll show their pretty little southern heads! :woohoo:
Janie--were you out trapsing through your neighbors flower bed?..:lmao: ..while they might not appreciate your footprints being left in their property, I appreciate the lovely shot you managed to capture! They look so delicate, bright and quite cheery! :D
And little Mr. Mushu---'nuff said! :puppy:

Oh my! All this talk of men in uniforn is bringing back such wonderful memories. Oh yes! Warrant Officer Collins!..When the HMAS Derwent docked, we would spend hours on the ship to shore phone. If he had been caught out he would have been in trouble :lmao:Even more so the night he was on MP duty and my girlfriend and I travelled the city in the back of the navy van with them , doing wheelies on the corner of Bourke and Elizabeth Sts :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: Hahahahahaah!
Hey Shazza, what are you two doing up at that cabin that makes it soooooooo appealing hey?

Janie, love the picture!!! Especially of little MuShu's tongue. Mollie and I really enjoyed our walk. We definitely need to go again soon! Mollie was pooped when she got home! I let Maggie (Justin's dog) out of her kennel and she was ready to play. Poor Mollie did her best effort by fighting while lying down. Mollie finally got on her couch and looked at Maggie with this
"Im sorry" but another time please!

Janie you and Tracey must have had a great time! Well, the dogs look like they are enjoying themselves, so I figure owners must be good too! ;)

Yeah, the dogs got along great and were both very well behaved. Mushu is terribly out of shape . . . a lot like I am . . . after a winter of not getting out much. Tracey, I'm up for walking anytime you feel like it! Now if I could have just come home and not eaten all those oreos the walk would have done me some good!

I am so in LOVE with the flower photo!!! How beautiful!
We have an annual rose and flower show and butterfly garden each year where my Mom lives. I hope to be able to go this year and take some photos. Your photo of flowers in your neighbors garden is so inspiring!

Awww. Thank you Kara! Here is another one from my neighbor's garden. I did some photoshopping on this one and desaturated the green so mainly the flower color shows up.
I know Diana will get a kick out of thinking of me sneaking in my neighbor's garden!! I promise they are right next to the sidewalk, Diana so I'm not being tooo bad!:evilsmile

I'm not sure if I've posted this one before. It is a grevillia Longistyla, my favourite native flower.
Kara, roses are my favourite flower of all the introduced species.

Here are some photos from my sister-in-laws wedding last saturday. Evelyn was my younger brother's first wife...I still can't believe he left such a gorgeous, intelligent, hard working woman ( She runs her own mortgage company). After loosing her second husband to cancer she met John at grief counselling, he lost his wife to cancer as well. He is the nicest, kindess, sweetest man you could ever meet. I am so happy for her.

Janie,
I am so moved by those daffodils as they are the flower for cancer.
I am wishing it was spring here so I could take some worthy photos. All I have is my trip to NH.
Maybe when I go to my Mother's this weekend I can find something pretty to snap some shots of.

LMAO!! Ok, now this thread has me giggling - I am imagining Janie sneaking around her neighbor's yard to get flower photos, ;) I love them, and can't wait to see some around here!! Probably not any time soon... Although, I had to laugh at myself yesterday - ok, ever day when I come home I peek off the porch/deck to the one side of it looking for any iris that are poking out maybe...Well, then it dawned on me - DUH! We MOVED them last year to another bed completely!!! So, here I've been looking in the wrong place! Ugh.
Rosalie, she's positively gorgeous! What a beautiful bride, my goodness. Great dress, great hair, lol - so pretty! But I have a question - is that a little teddy bear I see with her as well??
Ok D, my peeps is listening up! They are standing by ;)

I went by Home Depot yesterday, 2nd time this week and bought some flowers and bulbs. I have to weaknesses, shoes and flowers. So when I go shopping, I have to quickly put the shoes in my closet and throw away the evidence. When I buy flowers, I have to quickly get them in the ground and amazingly I haven't be caught yet!
My irises (how do you make that plural??) are getting ready to bloom. And I just remembered I had to divide them up last year since they were so crowded and I can't remember when I planted them. I am thinking the side yard. I need to walk over there to see if they made the transplant!
traceann
03-16-2007, 07:48 AM
Tracey's must be alike! Here I am looking in the old spot where my irises used to be waiting for their little green tips, and you can't remember where you planted yours, we'd make a FABULOUS team!!!! ;)
Oh I love plants myself, in the summer hubby and I do our "nursery drives" we hit every one of them in a big loop spread out amongst 2-3 counties!! And he's WORSE than I am! He just can't help himself...gotta have this, gotta have that, holy cow we planted a TON last year. I started calling him the Plant Nazi - I was working every weekend! He never stopped to just enjoy them for a bit! ARGH!! LMAO!!! ;)

Just so the two Traceys, Rosalie, Diana, Kara and Sharon don't think I only sneak photos of my neighbor's flowers . . . here is one from my garden. Maybe one of you ladies can tell me what it is. I must have planted the bulbs for this when we moved into the house 7 years ago but I can't for the life of me remember what I planted. Is it a hyacynth?
Rosalie, that flower you photographed at the top of this page is gorgeous and so exotic!

Tracey83,
In photobucket go to the image you want to use and click on the little box under the photo to put a check mark in it. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page
to the button that says: Generate HTML and IMG Code
Click on that and it will take you to a page with different codes.
The third one down will say:
IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards - recommended
Copy that and then just paste it into your message here at the ICN. That will be a clickable thumbnail that will allow us to view the larger image.
By the way, your flowers are beautiful. They look like they have been blooming a little longer than mine.
Diana
My favorite kind of cake is chocolate!! Better make it big for that file to fit in!:lmao:

Janie, so that is your story. Since mine had 2 blooms and yours only had one! I do have some Hyacinths with 1 bloom as well, but since I just planted them over the weekend. I bought them already "tipped" so they were ready to bloom, I will give you the benefit of the doubt. Never knew you could buy them that way, but Lowes had them! I also bought Tulip bulbs already "tipped" that are coming up pretty well. But just to let you know when my Tiger Lilies and Calla Lillies start blooming, I will be watching!
Tracey, I was telling my mom about our flower deal going on and when I told her I haven't seen my iris bulbs that I thinned out last year coming up, I must have done something wrong. She told me that if I would come see her sometime, (She lives 3 hours away) I would see them growing in her yard. She said that I gave them to her. I really don't remember that at all, but there are days that I can't remember what I watched on TV the night before. So I feel better that the iris' are safe for now. At least until the deer come around for a snack! She lives in a very populated area for deer. She is trying to figure out what method of birth control will be most effective. I told her she needs to have a salt lick close by and start shooting them with the depo shots! LOL!
Change of subject (like that never happens in here! For those of us that have dingy mothers, mine would probably win a prize!!! When she first moved to Arkansas she knew that there were "beautiful deer all over. She didn have a problem with the deer until she had bought about 10 flats of pansies to plant in her flower beds and had put them on her front porch. The next morning, all the pansies were gone. The deer had a regular buffet. I teased her unmercifully. She went to the local Walmart to purchase a gun. When she was filling out the application, she marked alien since she wasn't from Arkansas on the license. When she realized that they meant not a citizen of the US, she crossed it out, but it was too late, they told her that she couldn't have a gun (believe me that was a good thing). A few days later she was talking to one of her fellow neighbor/deer haters and she gave her one of her husbands guns. When my step dad found out about it, he hid the gun! So now my mother has this whistle by each door and when she sees any deer, she goes running out in the yard blowing her whistle. She lives in Heber Springs in a very nice area. I will show a picture one day when I can master the photobucket. (Thanks Janie for the tips!) At least her neighbors are at least 2 to 3 acres away, or there would certainly be a some men coming after her with a big net. I have been at her house before and at 5:30 in the morning was woken up by this shrilling whisle and watching my mom run down her driveway! Just thought that ya'll would enjoy the story! And she doesn't take any meds that make her "loopy" like me!
Good night. I need to get some rest to practice on "photobucket"! I have neighbors too!

Since the others told you the name of the flower, I can attest to the fact that they do have a strong smell. The only problem with them is if you take a cutting, the flower does not last but a day. You can put the bulb in a pot and let it grow indoors and the smell will last longer.
D...Love the sunrise. I used to be a night person until I had a job that made it necessary for me to get up at 4:30am. Then I learned to LOVE sunrises. The pic of the ski jump makes me dizzy. :dizzy:
T83...WOW what a house!!!!! Heber Springs??? Isn't that somewhere around Hardy? The cabin we go to is near Hardy.
Your Mom sounds like so much fun. I can just see her running out the door with the whistle.
Glad you like the name I came up with for you. It was making me :dizzy: trying to keep the 2 Ts straight.
I took some more pictures at the cabin this weekend. I will post them as soon as I can get Hubby to host them on his photo site. One is of the fire in the fireplace on Friday night.

Yes, Sharon I like my nickname. It was confusing and I am one of the Traceys! Heber Springs is a little more west than Hardy. It's about 3 1/2 hours from here. Not an easy trip for me, lots of curvy and 2 lane roads. My step dad luckily has a plane, so he comes and gets me (only 45 minutes by plane) and my hubby sometimes so we can spend the weekend. It's very pretty, but I couldn't stand that much isolation. My stepdad had the land for a number of years and they started building their house a couple years before he retired. Most of the people that live near them are retired, so they have alot of fun. My hubby and I have played Bunko with them several times. They have about 10 couples that play regularly. My husband and I don't drink, but alot of them do, so by the middle of the game, it qets quite "interesting". My hubby and I call it happy hour at the old folks home!

Thinking that it was going to be warm today, I ventured to the water front (Elizabeth River) to snap some shots. It was too chilly for me so I only managed to get about 10 pics, then deleted a few due to being too cold to hold my hands still..I'm ready for spring! **Disclaimer--I'm not affiliated with PETA or NOAA; just happened to be using the public deck for photo purposes.

I love the Tea House shot. Reminds me of the Japanese Garden in the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
Do mermaids frequent Norfolk?
T83...Solitude can be wonderful if taken in small doses. Both Hubby and I would love to buy a piece of land and build a weekend house on the land where the Cabin has been built. Of course, the owner of the Cabin would have to sell us a piece of his land since the Cabin is built in the middle of 200 acres. Oh but we can dream. :) Oh how wonderful that you can visit via plane. :)
Claredale

That's right solitude in "small doses"!
Shopping in Heber Springs is at the Freds or the very small Walmart! And those stores are about 20 minutes away since my mom doesn't actually live in Heber Springs. When she goes to do her big grocery shopping, she drives to Conway which is about an hour's drive. My mother also does not have cable or satellite, so it gets pretty boring in the winter! I don't do well when I don't get to watch HGTV or TLC! Since they live on the bluff, it get's so cold so walks are out of the question as well. We have started taking our extra Direct TV with us and set up the satellite when we take are boys since there isn't much for them to do. Now during the summer, we spend most of the time at the lake which is alot of fun.
They used to live in Collierville, and had alot of friends, so I was really worried about her when they first moved there, but they quickly found as I call them "the hill people" only since there are so many hills to drive up to get to any of their homes. I used to say that I would never ride in that small plane, but believe me, it is so much easier than that drive. There is just no easy way to get from my house to their house.
We have gone to Spring River several times and camped and went canoeing. My hubby has some friends that have cabins in Hardy.

Wow, Diana - those photos of Norfolk are very impressive. I really had no idea it was such a beautiful and interesting place to live. I really wish we had gotten to visit down there when we lived in the DC area.
That class ring is amazing. They sure look different from the ones we had back when I graduated HS. in 1975 - OMG has it really been 32 years??? No wonder the class rings have changed!:lmao:

Janie--thanks for the comments :).....Norfolk has done alot of revitalization over the last several years. Back in "the day" it was the place to hang out, then it slowly went downhill, and was quite the scary place to have to travel through, never mind stopping anywhere in an attempt to enjoy ones self. Since the clean-up its quite the pleasant area with lots of shopping, dining and entertainment.
Re: the class ring..haha..its amazing how time flies huh?
Sharon--isnt that Tea House lovely? Yesterday was the first time i'd ever taken the time to walk around their grounds--very tranquil!
And, you'd be amazed at how many mermaids are hanging out in Norfolk...they're popping (or should I say swimming) up everywhere and have been for years! :lmao:

Here's a photo of the fabulous Molly and friend, MuShu. Took this photo today when T83 and I met for a walk at a local park. The dogs are very well behaved with each other and I think they were both excited about getting together. Hey I wonder if there is a doggie park in our area where we could let them play off leash?
dg2901
03-20-2007, 05:26 PM
Sharon--BUSTED! is correct..haha..The maroon Expedition went crusing by our house with the driver checking frantically in his rear view/side view mirrors (we happened to be in the street checking out my son's car) followed in hot pursuit by 2 cop cars. One of my son's friends rode his bike casually past the scene in time enough to hear them call in the 10 code--drug bust! :tsk: Of course I had to play photojournalist/papparazzi (you can tell I was staked out behind my neighbors trees resting my camera on his truck)..:lmao:
Janie--the dog photo is very cute! By the way they have their tongues sticking out I can only guess they had a fabulous time on their outing. :puppy:
I bet you do have a dog park somewhere close by your house--they seem to be the hip thing going these days. :)

We do need to investigate where there is a dog park. Everyone should notice that we don't take pictures of ourselves, our tongues were really hanging out! LOL!

Yeah, I was driving around the neighborhood and saw a layer of pollen on a car that hadn't been driven in a while. I knew it was going to be the start of allergy season big time around here.
SharonA
03-22-2007, 03:21 AM
Hubby told me yesterday that he had read that there are only two places in the States that have this large amount of green pollen...Memphis and New Orleans.
D...Thanks for the tissue. *blow*
Janie Miranda
03-22-2007, 04:56 AM
Well, that explains a lot, Sharon. My allergies are horrible here and I know they have played a big part in my IC. The hydroxyzine and claritin I take every
day seems to really help my IC symptoms but I still struggle with other allergy symptoms.
By the way, what exactly is green pollen? When we lived in Jacksonville FL, the cars used to be covered in a very thick yellow polen.
SharonA
03-22-2007, 05:31 AM
Janie...Don't know. I heard one of the weather dudes (Joey on Fox 13) call it that. It might be the same as you had before. *she says as she shrugs her shoulders*
Janie and T83 BTW...I talked with Hubby last night about the two of you and me getting together. I asked him if he would like to meet the two husbands. He said he would like that. We all have other things in common besides IC. I am an Air Force Brat. Hubby is head nerd where he works plus he does the photog stuff. Maybe we could all get together one evening at your house, Janie? Nothing like having someone plan a party for you, right? :tsk:
Janie Miranda
03-22-2007, 05:51 AM
That sounds like a great idea, Sharon. I have to admit my entertaining skills have gotten terribly rusty since my Officer's Wive's Club days are behind me and I have been chasing a little one around for the last 4 years. We'll grill out or something and maybe you guys can bring a side dish so we can call it a "pot luck."
My sister called me last night and told me my mother is in the hospital with a blood clot in her leg so we may be making a trip up to KY very soon unless she recovers and gets discharged very quickly. I'll start thinking about our get together after I figure out what is up with that.
Keep my mom in your prayers that this will be an easy recovery for her.
SharonA
03-22-2007, 06:51 AM
You bet I will, Janie. I am so sorry to hear this.
Don't worry about entertaining. Hubby and I are easily pleased. We're just regular people. No fuss necessary. We'll just have to figure out what the three of us ICers can eat in common.
Claredale
03-22-2007, 07:07 AM
Janie, believe me, I am the last person to worry about entertaining! Definitely no fuss for me and my hubby as well! I worry so much when it is me to do the entertaining...my poor family!!!!
Janie, sorry to hear about your mom. I hope they can take care of it quickly. When my husband had a bloodclot one time (due to being hit while playing basketball..the old man!). He had to stay still and take aspirin for a few days, but he was after that and no other problems. It looked like he had been bitten by a bug on his leg, but luckily he went to the doctor or it could have been bad.
So Sharon, I am a Navy brat and have a computer nerd hubby. Your hubby and mine will probably be talking in that "code"! LOL!
I used to have horrible allergies. The funny thing is that they went away in my early 20s when my IC symptoms started. I have lived in the Memphis area most of my life. Everyone I know right now is sneezing!
We would like to see some other spring shots from other places. Please send some photos!

Janie--today was quite gorgeous! Temps were in the mid 70's (mid 20's for all of our Celcius friends :)), and the skies were crystal clear--perfect day to be out and about. A friend of mine came and picked me up on her motorcycle and we went cruising all around the area; I decided at the last minute not to take my camera--for fear of dropping it--however, now I wish I would have taken it along for the ride.
I have a Canon PS G6--of course they stopped making it a few months ago and replaced it with the G7. The only thing I wish mine had is image stabilization--my hands arent the steadiest (as can surely be noticed in my pics). I'm debating really hard about buying a Digital Rebel--only problem is that my eyesight is terrible and I'm afraid I wont be able to get really clear pictures.
Tracey (traceann) at the moment doesnt have internet access at work, and her home time is being divided between her husband and her mom. She's only been able to pop online at short intervals (15 minutes here and there) so she's been sticking to the shorter threads. Rest assured though that she's missing this thread the most!..:)
Hope everyones well!

Well, hope Traceann gets more online time soon.
Diana, I love my digital rebel but the first year i had it i got lousy pictures with it cause I stayed with the automatic modes. I didn't start getting better until I started learning how to use the manual modes better. I still have a lot to learn about shutter speed and aperture and stuff like that but I do LOVE this camera.

Janie--you take magnificent photographs. As with anything new, it takes time to learn the in's and out's. With photography that learning process is never-ending.
Like I mentioned, the main thing thats keeping me from buying a dslr is my eyesight. I'd hate to spend the money and never be able to put it to full use. I have to admit though, using that Nikon the other week was fun! :)

Just one answer to a question from Shazza about the teddies bears onmy sister-in-laws arm at the wedding. I dont know if you have the same custom in the states, but here as the bride walks back down the aisle after her wedding people put small gifts over her arm. They were usually only horse shoes for good luck but these days anything seems to do.

Ro...It sure looks like your vegies are very expensive. I will have to do some comparison shopping to see if that is true. Does anyone know what today's prices are for red peppers? I buy them about once a year, chop and/or slice them and put them in the freezer to be used for cooking, so I don't know what they are going for these days.
That is such a nice custom, Ro. No, we don't do that. We just give toasters or food processors. They are way too big and heavy for the Bride to carry them down the aisle. :lmao:
I guess Hil can't wait to be a little ol' lady. :lmao: The best thing about hair is that it grows and nothing is really permanent, no matter the mistakes. Also, there are so many beautiful scarves out there.

Andrea....The URLs came through just fine. That is the way I post my pictures. The pics of your children are wonderful. I love the last one and the one of the little girl running gave me a smile.
BTW...:welcome: to the photog thread. This is a fun place where we can share our lives with each other and where we can forget that we have IC for a few minutes. Glad you decided to post here. :)

YAY! I appear to be up and running again here at work - but I don't want to say that too loudly, lest I jinx myself, lol. A big big thank you to D for letting you all know I was still around, ;) I see I have a lot of catching up to do around here!!!! Lots of great photos, and great chit chat too! Janie, I do hope your mom's feeling good!!
And Ro, I am with Sharon all we get are toasters and stuff, way to heavy to haul back down the aisle - but I LOVE that tradition, it sounds so fun. Now if we could just get something like that started over here! Come on over and start a wedding revolution Ro!! ;)
And I am with Sharon Andrea, the little girl running is fabulous and welcome to the thread! It grows and we just keep starting another one...Which, reminds me, who'd like to start the new on, this one's getting a bit leggy and I started the this one...Ro? Sharon? D? Janie? Any takers??? ;)
I was glad to read Janie that it took you awhile to get shots that were decent with your camera, ugh, no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to get the same result twice, I'll have a handful of good ones, and the rest stinkers. I guess it's that impatient perfectionist in me - I want to do it NOW and be good at it! ;)
Now that some green is greening I am getting the outdoor bug and will be dragging the camera in tow....
Missed all you guys!!! I love this crazy thread!

So Tracey...You finally made your way back to us. Well, all I can say about that is its about time!!!!!!
I would start a new thread but Hubby still hasn't fixed it so I can post my pictures of our last visit to the cabin. He has downloaded them but for some reason I can't post them without giving a link to all my pictures. We wouldn't want to do that now would we?...NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! ;)

Andrea, :welcome: I'm glad you have joined this little group and look forward to seeing lots more pics. I also love the one of the little girl running down thw hall. Have you photoshopped it? the colour is striking! I also like the sepia one of the little boy.
Shazza and Tracey, very funny on the toasters over the arm :lmao: ...not a good look for the wedding portraits though. One of mine was a real horseshoe with a crocheted covering...it was pretty heavy! Now as for the price of the veggies, remember that is per kilo (2.2lbs) so how does that compare with prices over there? Also the current exchange rate is about $au1.00 = us.79c.

Hey Sharon! Yep, will be back to the old routine here I am hoping starting this week - I have a laptop that I am now using for "play" at work stuck on my desk just so I can surf, lol - and I am having a heck of a time getting used to it! I use a regular desktop for work stuff now (instead of that same desktop for both) so flipping back and forth it driving me nuts! The abbreviated keyboard messes with me every time, the touch-pad mouse-thingy is like a whole new language to me (Yeah, I know, I am behind the times, lol) so, it's been quite an adventure! :)
Hmmm, maybe D has something to kick off a new one with...I should try to remember to take my camera to work with me to shoot my "new" digs... and the kitty at work, lol.
LOL, Ro, that's hilarious - a real horseshoe?!? That must have been a heavy walk back down the aisle!! ;)

Hey Robin cute kids. If you join and upload your pics to a site like photobucket, you can paste them into your post via the little picture of the 'mountain and sun' second from the right above the 'reply to thread' box.
If you use photobucket you can also post them as clickable thumbnails.
Then we can get a closer looks at those gorgeous kiddies! It is so wonderful to see you and other icn members joining in on this thread.
Being from the other side of the planet to most of you, I love seeing your pictures and occassionally, I have something a bit different for you all to see too.

Thanks Rosalie I will try that. Today is a busy day for me, so probably won't try to figure it out yet, but I will give it a try in a few days.

Looking forward to seeing more of your world...

Rosalie, I have a 1997 Subaru Impresa with 161,000 miles on it. Bought to start off my retirement. I love it. Get snow up here and it will go thru anything. Sometimes think I'd like a new one but hesitate to spend money until I need to. Enjoy! Sue:dance:
