worse on ABs?

can antibiotics make you worse?
didn't think this was possible and also started another medication at the same time, but my symptoms are through the roof.
been given norfloxacin to take long term just in case there is an infection but instead of helping, am now having burning urethral pain and constant bursting bladder and no output


just thought I'd ask if anyone else has experienced this?
Have had infections before due to instillations etc and antibiotics tend to help me at least whilst on them. haven't had any antibiotics for a year though
and IC is much worse these days

If an antibiotic is making you worse make sure you take a probiotic with it! Antibiotics can affect your digestive tract....make you more gassy which can increase pain (sure does me!)

yeast can cause burning and your chance of yeast is higher when immune system is weakened by an infection and your on and antibiotic.

Even so it sounds to me like this may be pelvic floor related since it sounds like your having spasms. Your burning can be because of tight pelvic muscles too and your muscles are likely to tighten up if you have an infection.

I think the best thing to do would be to come off the new medications and then see how I am and then start them with a few days apart to see side effects


ohh, now you mention it, do feel really tight and painful. ahh,, didn't know pelvic floor could cause burning. has eased a little so hopefully,will try and take baths etc to get it to ease for a good while.

I was on macrodantin, and I swore up and down to my uro that it made me worse, I wasn't dx at that time so he didn;t beleive me. Antibiotics are irratating to my bladder.

The longer I am on antibiotics, the worse my flare becomes. The worst flare I ever had was when I was on cipro for 10 days. I ended up going to the emergency room. This was long before I das dx'ed with IC.

Some ICers have problems with some of the antibiotics. If you've been on antibiotics for very long, you might want to talk to your doctor about a urine culture just to be sure you haven't developed an infection that is resistant to the antibiotic you're taking. This sometimes happens.
