View Full Version : Does the average patient get "dilated" for BIOPSY?

I requested my operative report from my biopsy I had done in January. I was given a 22 French rigid cystoscope. It says "there was slight stenosis of the urethral meatus, but not severe. At this point the scope was removed, and she was dilated up to 26-French." Unquote. I was just wondering if anyone else had this done, just for a biopsy. Or any other comments. Thank you.

I didn't have to have it done, but I didn't have a stricture or anything in the urethra. It sounds as if your urethra had a narrow part - where they couldn't get the scope in - and they decided to stretch it with an instrument specifically designed for that purpose, to avoid injuring you.

If this had been the case with me, I wouldn't have felt they did anything wrong, personally. I would have understood they needed to get the scope in so they could make sure I didn't have cancer, and to give me a diagnosis, and I know that those instruments are made for situations such as this.

I would imagine your urethra was probably sore afterwards, though, am I right? Hopefully they gave you some pyridium and/or pain meds after the biopsy etc. so that you could be more comfortable.

Blessings,
Lori

Yes, I definitely feel worse since my biopsy January 5, but from what I've heard from other patients, it may take awhile for things to go back to normal. Thank you.
