I had a total abdominal hysterectomy on 12/27/06. Since that time my IC and PFD have gone through the roof! Fortunately I am healing normally from my hyter but still having real problems with my IC and PFD.

Anyone who has been in this situation, would you plese offer me some advice, words of encouragement, etc?

Some days I seem to do alright emotionally and physically. Fortunately we changed my antideppressant and that has help tremendously. But the last 2 weeks I have been in a blue funk that I can't seem to shake. I really have no desire to do anything. And by anything I mean just that. I lay in my pjs until I have to dress to meet my daughter at the bus stop at 3pm each day. I go days without even bathing. I know that sounds nasty but I just don't care. I not going anywhere anyway.
I am so medicated that I forget to take some of my maintanence drugs and my husband has been on my case about that too. Maybe the new anti's are working too well?

Has anyone felt this way before?

It's been less than a month since you had a major surgery. You should begin feeling better within another month or so. It can take eight weeks to fully recover from an abdominal surgery and in some cases a little longer. Think of it this way --- you are half way there. If they took your ovaries, as well as the uterus, you may also have some hormone issues, which would account for some of your fatigue. I know it seems like it takes forever, but one of these days, you will get up and realize you feel better.

Warm healing thoughts,
Donna

Donna,
Thank you for the kind reply. Fortunatley he had planned on taking my ovaries but spared them. I knew that this would really flare my already upset IC and PFD but never imagined how bad it would be. Is it normal to be experiencing this sort of mood alteration this late in the game? Even on 75mg of Effexer XR? Should I contact my doctor and let him know? My next appt isn't until 2/8

Armslee: I sure as hell would let someone know how you are feeling. I know I am in serious depression and start thinking bad thoughts when I've skipped a bath for more than a day. I don't miss my meds because that makes me sicker and if you are taking Effexor DONT MISS any of those doses. Withdrawals from that put any withdrawals from morphine to shame. (I was on Effexor for 4 years, went off in the way that was prescribed...and vomitted, had "brain zaps" , shook, sweat, hallucinated for months afterwards....my doctor said I was imagining it, it wasn't the drug....but I know tooooo many people who have been sick from it)

I don't know if you were busy in anything other than your children prior to your surgery. Children are a business (busyness?) all in themselves..ha, ha..Remember, you hurt, your body chemistry is a mess and all that good stuff.....try to shower at least everyother day. Just doing that makes you feel you've accomplished something and you feel better (warm water on achy muscles) I don't know if you feel better now, I see it's been a week or so since you've posted it. Just clean body, clean clothes and a touch of makeup each day, if only for yourself, will do alot to help you feel betterl Let meknow how you are doingl

Just want to send a hug your way and let you know it will get better. I had a total hysterectomy in Oct 05. Donna's right, it does take a few months to heal. That's why they take people off work for 6-8 weeks afterwards. Even when your incison starts to look better, there are still internal stitches and bruises healing. Also, even though you didnt have your ovaries removed, they will be sluggish for few months after the surgery. And, as you know, when the hormones arent working right, it throws everything off! So, that along with forgetting the Effexor from time to time could definately be causing your problem.

It might be a good idea to set your alarm so you will remember to take your meds. That way, even if you dozed off, you will wake up to take them. It is also a good idea to take most daily meds at the same time every day. Setting the alarm would probobly help with that.

I agree that it definately wouldnt hurt to let your Dr. know what is going on, just to be sure.

I hope that you heal quickly and start feeling better soon.

Warm hugs,
Amy

Wendi,

I hope with each new day, you are gaining strength. Thinking of you for the next appointment in February. With time and the new antidepressant, may you be on your way to enjoying the things that you were missing before.

Warm Hugs, :grouphug:

My IC was significantly worse post my abdominal hysterectomy.....I found rescue instillations helped get me through the time that was worse. That helped a lot with the IC but the PFD is still an issue for me. I plan to see a better physical therapist soon. Time did help too! I know this is a hard time my hysterectomy was certainly hard on my IC...but things did get better again aside from the PFD. :grouphug:

I had my total hysterectomy the day after 9/11. Mine was done vaginally and I already had my blladder out do to the IC, but I was in pain for months afterwards as well as feeling depressed by the loss of my female organs and what that meant. Give yourself lots of tiem to heal both physically as well as emotionally.I do think you should call your doctor and let them know what you told us here about how you are feeling.

Wendi,
I know how you feel, I had a full abdominal hysterectomey 3 yrs ago i was diagnosed with ic after the surg, i have a hard time still to this day ,, my pain has gotten worse with the ic ,, i dont know if having the hyst. made that worse or what , i was having bladder prob before the surg so im sure i have had ic for yrs and yrs and no one knew it,, i think ppl just thought i was a hypochondriac or something,,. Anyway it could be that i was 29 when i had the surg too. I have good days and bad days i go through the funk just like you were i dont want to get out of the bed , bath , or dress . It will get better for you and for me though we will find a way to beat it. I have to keep hope ,,, im a hairstylist and its my passion and this disease is slowly taking it away , but i stay strong and i still do hair no matter what i make my self do it atleas t a few days a week ,, i wont let it win. God bless and good luck!
