View Full Version : Interstim is coming out! I think on Friday!

After all has been said and done Today, My Interstim is coming out. I just got off of the phone with my doctor in Boston. It was an upsetting conversation because he told me that he didn't understand why I could not find a Urologist here in Syracuse to remove it. He knows my whole story and how hard I have struggled to find professional, competant, caring doctors to take my case. I told him that it was only right that he remove it because he was the doctor who put it in for me. I've been nothing but loyal to him for 8 years now! He hemmed and hawed over it for a few minutes and then agreed to do it. He said he wanted it out soon if I was in so much pain. I mentioned that it would take me years to find a doctor elsewhere to do it for me. He said he didn't think we would want to make the 5 hour drive and that it would be a hassle. Not in our opinion. We'd rather do that then wait a year to find someone else to do it.

He asked me if I could leave Syracuse tomorrow to have the Interstim removed on Friday. IF HIS SECRETARY AGREES that it can be done then. He said he just had a cancellation today for that time slot and that I would fit in perfectly.

So if the secretary says its a go: I will be leaving tomorrow afternoon/evening for Enitire Interstim Removal. He said it would be done under General and would take 15 minutes.

I am so tired! But this needs to be done. I just hope it works out. I know how some secretaries can be about scheduling last minute surgeries.

Thanks for your support! You all have been so good to me this week and I really appreciate it.

Love and Hugs,

Kara:angel:

Hi Kara, What wonderful news! I hope that secretary gets its scheduled for you. I used to schedule surgeries, and it would drive me CRAZY when the doc wanted to do an "add on" or unexpected surgery. Since HE was the doc though, it was up to me to work it out with the hospital, lab and patient to get it all done, even immediate surgery. USUALLY what the doc says goes, and if he's got a cancellation, it shouldn't be a problem. Good Luck to you!

I am so glad the doctor finally agreed to help you out. He should be the one to take it out since he is the one who put it in. It always amazes me how willing doctors are in the beginning to help and then when they can't figure things out they get frustrated and don't want to do anything.

I am sorry you have to drive so far to get it done but I know it will be worth it. I pray this will get rid of the pain you have been in.

Have a safe trip and when you feel better please let us.

Good luck tomorrow:pray: . Hope this ends a lot of the pain you have, though I do realize it is not the whole problem, just a part of it. Is it same day surgery or will you need to stay in the hospital over night? I will be thinking of you tomorrow. Sending you a big hug, Judith

It's amazing how much pain those can cause. My dad had one and it was shut down for a few years because he became tolerant to the meds. But anyway, he was in excruciating pain daily, couldn't sleep, was swelling everywhere, had sores on his skin.

Anyway, they removed it and it was just filthy. It had created some sort of reaction to the implant all around it and developed scar tissue, mucus, unhealed tissue, all sorts of stuff in there and it had literally been poisoning him that whole time. No wonder he had been in terrible pain! Yuck!

So, thank God you are getting it removed, I hope it solves alot of your pain issues and you feel well afterwards. :)

Everything has been set for tomorrow in Boston. The pre-op has been done; the pre-admission testing has been completed. I just need to meet with the Anesthesiologist before I go in. I am scheduled for same day surgery but if things don't go as planned they will keep me overnight. I will be Interstim free by Tomorrow night! I hope this helps the back pain. It's been rough! I am NOT looking forward to traveling 5 hours. I will have to lie down in the back seat. My parents took off of work to take me. I am grateful that I have them and that they are so supportive!

Thanks for your support!

Thank You ALL for your kind words and support!

I am all settled in my Hotel and resting. I am nervous about the Anesthesia. I am afraid they won't believe how hard it is to put me to sleep. I really don't want to wake up, no matter how short of a surgery it is. My Parents are standing behind me on this. My Dad is not going to let them take me in until they are fully aware of the anesthesia awarness. I always get scared of any surgery since my fall out in May of 2006.

I pray that it's over and I am in recovery soon!

Love and Hugs to you ALL!

Wow, Kara, this is great news!!! I am so excited for you! Good for you for sticking to your guns and insisting he treat you! Oh I will keep you in my prayers! I wish I would have logged on earlier, yesterday was my volunteer day and I didn't get out until after five, and then we went out to eat (Indian food, it was really good!) and then I didn't get home until almost 8 and I was so tired I just went right to bed. Then today I have been running around like crazy. So I just saw this now.

Oh, I hope so much this will end the pain! It would be great if the nerve block worked for the urethral pain, then the interstim surgery relieved the back pain so you could feel much better!

Woo hoo!

I'm so excited for you!

Oh, you are going to think I'm such an idiot when you read my PM to you, because I wrote it before I read this message, d'oh!

Blessings,
Lori

Just talked briefly to Kara, she made it through the surgery okay (woo hoo!!!) and she's maintaining a positive, hopeful outlook on things!

(I forgot to ask her, but I hope she won't mind me posting that she made it through okay. I know everyone was hoping just like me she'd be okay!)

Blessings,
Lori

I just wanted to say a quick Hello. I am back at my Hotel and working on resting. The surgery went well and I stayed asleep. This hospital was great with everything! The wires were buried and took him some maneuvering to get out. I am not surprised, after all it was in there for 7 years! I am glad it's out.

I am not looking foward to the drive home though. I will be happy when I am back in my bed in NY. I hiope I recover well and move forward with my PNE diagnosis. Just had to pass a speed bump along the way. Praying that I will be able to sit when I heal. Trying to stay positive but know that miracles are hard to come by lately....

The car ride home was a nightmare. We ran into a snow storm and it took us an hour and a half longer to get home. I was in the backseat praying that the trip would be over soon.

The pain from this Interstim Surgry is worse than the pain I had when I had my whole entire bladder reconstructed, urethra removed, and Indiana Pouch made with a Stoma.

I can only lay on one side and that gets tiring after awhile. I can take Vicoden but it makes me extremely jumpy at every little noise and it upsets my PNE really bad.

I seem to remember that when I had the Interstim placed it took me 3 weeks before I could sit again.

The pain I was having in my back is exactly where the 2nd incision is which tells me that the Interstim was what was hurting me. Process of Elimination I guess.

I am standing to write this, so I will go for now.

I wanted to again thank you all so much for your love and support! I am not done yet. Trying to get there though and your words are so helpful!

Love and Hugs,

Kara
