I was just wondering if all you ladies who have clitoris pain see your urologist or gyne. I had been doing better with elavil, but now the clitoris pain is back as bad as ever. Have an appt. with uro today, but in the past, when I mentioned clitoris pain she looked at me like I was crazy. My gyne says that everything looks fine. Yikes, I feel like I am crazy, but I know from reading the posts that there are alot of us out there that suffer from the same pain. It's making me so miserable I can't tell you. Any help would be so appreciated. I'm getting a little depressed about this relapse. Help

Is your uro a man? Just curioius because they will never be able to understand what that pain feels like. I get it too, and though I don't have it all the time (thankfully) I have it enough that I know it will drive you crazy. I've been sitting here moping this morning thinking I need to find a female GYN to supplement all the male docs I have in my life. Male Uro (2 of them), male pain doc, male GP. I'd mention it to him, and at least give it a try...maybe take some of the posts from this board with you to show him it DOES exist?
Let us know how your appt goes!

My dear, don't let your doctor off the hook until you get an answer!
For what your uro is getting paid you should nag until you are
satisfied with the answer.
I know a lot of us can relate to this clitoral pain, although in my case
it's actually the urethra that is inflammed and is causing the
problem. Oddly enough I'm seeing my uro tomorrow about the same
issue which is part of a flare that's been intensifying for a couple of
months.
I am extremely lucky to have been leading a nearly normal life for
six years and I thank Elmiron for that. My luck however seems to
be running out as they say.
You doctor doesn't have to understand your pain to acknowledge it
exists and to help you with it. If your uro has more than just a few
IC patients he must have heard of this pain issue before.

Thanks you guys-it's always so comforting to know I am not alone.
My uro is a female, which makes this all that more upsetting. Apparently she has many IC patients, but she acts very stiff and businesslike. I thought that maybe this was an infection not a flare, which happened when I was first diagnosed. She looked at me and said my urine was perfectly clear three weeks ago and she doubted it was an infection. She tested it and said it was negative and when I asked her to send it out for culture she got all snotty. Then when I asked if this could be my kidney stones acting up she asked if I ever had kidney stone surgery--What? When I said no she just dropped it. Then when I mentioned my horrible clitoris pain she asked if I wanted a rescue instillation. I swear I am losing my mind. When I said no, I thought if I could increase my elavil, I am taking 10 mg. and maybe get something for the pain, I would get over this flare. Well, no pain meds, but she did let me increase elavil.
I really wish these docs would just feel the pain for an hour. I know things would be different!
Again, thanks for the advice; you guys are great. I am really thinking of mailing her some of the posts from this site. Probably woudln't read them, but it would make me feel better!

Mary,
I think Sandy is right about the man thing.. My uro is man and he didnt understand at all when I mentioned my clitoris hurt, he just looked at me puzzled and said that it was IC causing the pain..
But my GYN is a woman and she completely understood, she put me on Cymbalta, because she thinks its more of a nerve pain..I feel for you, so much, I know the agony of this pain, its pure torture...I can live with the stabbing pains from IC, but having that throbbing pain in the clitoris is a nightmare, I honestly thought I was going to go crazy....
I hope you find some relief soon, I will pray for you!!!
(((((((((hugs)))))))))))))
