Hi guys,

It has been already several months, that after bowel movements I have burning sensations in rectum area. It lasts only a few minutes, but it spreads towards front and my bladder symptoms get worse including urgency and frequency. I am going to have colonoscopy next week, but what worries me is laxative that I have to take the day before. It has five flavor packs: cherry, citrus berry, orange, lemon lime and pineapple. All these fruits make my symptoms worse and I have to drink the whole 4 liter container the day before procedure. Did anybody of you go for this procedure and how did your bladder react to it? I would very much appreciate your answers.

I had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago and they gave me pineapple flavored laxative that didn't bother my ic at all. Good luck!!

Ask them for the HALF LYTLEY (I think thats how it's spelled)...it's literally HALF the amount of fluid in the Go Lytely and it isn't nearly as hard to get down. I've found it's just about impossible to drink that 4 liter bottle! They do make better things now. Also, there is a new pill, well, its something like 28 pills that you take, and there is, of course, no flavor to that. The irritation from the constant going, and going is what bothered my bladder....get yourself a good book, some good magazines, and some really soft tissue like Charmin. The prep really is the hardest part. I've had about 6 colonoscopies......I'm an old pro!

Sandy,

Thank you for all your suggestions. I really am not looking forward to this procedure and can't wait to get over with it. Since I haven't got this laxative yet I'll call them and ask them for something else.

I had no bladder issues from the colonscopy prep. I had to drink two 8oz glasses of the laxative and while it was a bit nasty tasting it wasnt intolerable.
Theres also a prep called Lo-So Prep; it consists of an 8oz powder, 4 pills and a suppository.

good luck

The prep is the worst. I do suggest you put a comfortable chair in your bathroom and take a good book with you --- once you start drinking the wonderful "cocktail" you'll be camping in the bathroom for several hours. It didn't cause me any bladder pain, but the stuff was pretty awful tasting. What I did was figure out how much I would have to drink every ten minutes; then I would pour that much in the glass, hold my nose, and chug it down. Once you finish drinking the solution it doesn't take long to finish going through you so you can go to bed and rest.

Had to drink this stuff from Fleet- yuck!! (2 - 8oz. Eight hours apart. Wasn't that bad. Got me a really good book, pretty much sat in the bathroom. Gave me no problems with my IC at all.
Good luck.

Thank you Mary and everyone else again. They changed my laxative to HalfLyte and I have to drink only 2 liters of liqiud. If it was not for you I would be going crazy thinking how I would finish that whole galon.

Yep, I gotta agree with the rest that the prep is not fun, but doesn't last forever, lol. ;) I did the same things - I made my bathroom a nice "relaxing" place, especially since I'd be spending so much time in there. I had tons of "tabloid" type magazines, I had a nice scented candle even, lol. I also had baby wipes, which wow, were great can't imagine the regular toilet paper chafe, lmao!! And also had Prep-H - used before anything got started, it helped to protect skin from too much irritation, I am so glad I did it!!! :)

Do keep us posted on how you do - which I am sure you will be just fine!! :)

The baby wipes are a great idea, and so are the Tucks pads, or, better yet, try soaking a washcloth in witch hazel and sticking it in the freezer for about 15 minutes, the put it right there on your bottom before the prep kicks in and then use it again after you're 'finished' running to the bathroom. It's very soothing and much cheaper than the tucks pads, and will also help prevent hemmorhoids and a sore bottom. Just leave it in place til it gets warm then get a clean washcloth and start all over again.
