I am in soooooooo much pain from the waist down. Since being off the bc for 3 months now the cramps have gone back to the way they were before. I thought the vicodin would help out with them but nope, nope, nope and I don't have any naproxen at all. Won't see doc until mid week soooooooooo. Why are the cramps so bad to begin with and the bleeding?? My sisters don't have this problem just me. My stomach feels extra bloated and talk about trying to sit down without screaming. Things feel so inflamed inside. I hope meno-pause starts soon.

I have terrible cramps when I start my period. Every month I spend at least the first day in bed, it's that bad! I save some of my B&O suppositories to help with that pain because too much Advil bothers my bladder, and Advil is the only thing that really, really helps my cramps. Also, I take muscle relaxers and sometimes take an extra one that first day. I'm due to start any day now, and I can tell it's coming because I wanna eat the entire house and am craving salt. So sorry you feel like that, but I definately understand! I've got a few years before menopause more than likely, and sure would like some other help before then. I can't take BC pills for several reasons, so I dont have a lot of options.
You might try taking 2 advil with some prelief if they bother your bladder.

Oh Waterflow I am just like that too. Since first day I started my period I always have cramps and now I am older I still have severe cramps. I don't even want to move it hurts. I try birth control pill but they immediately took me off of it.
I wish I was menopausing too. My hormones level show I am not memopausing. That does not sound right because I miss and skip periods all the time. I am cold nature person anyway and I get those hot flashes. I am very hot or I am very cold. I think my body is telling the truth not the test. I don't know why we have cramps so bad, grrrrrrr.
I was wondering why I crave salt, is it the hormones going crazy.
Sorry for babbling, I do hope you start feeling better.
Sending hugs, Trishann

Think I need to lay off the vicodin. For my password I typed in "cramps". :bonk: You both sound just like me and I feel so sorry for you. I know exactly how you feel. I've tried everything in the stores for the cramps and nothing worked anymore. used to take extra strentgh midol but that finally stopped helping.
Trishann, you know something?? The last few years I get hot and then cold. Then hot and then cold. Some nights I sweat and others I freeze. I used to be hot all the time and wanted to live in Alaska. Now I don't know where to live. Can't fly back and forth from Alaska to Hawii. I don't crave anything during this time. I am so in pain and feel sick and my stomach so bloated eating is the last thing on my mind. I sit too for the first day. At least by using a tampon now I don't have to worry about having an accident with the bleeding. I've had this since I was 11 years old! It's been a pani since day one and only got worse with time. I've always wanted a hysto. If vicodin doesn't work for cramps what do they do for labor pains? I feel so sorry for woman. I was told my cramps were as bad as labor pains but I don't know.
Hope you both get to feeling better in a few days. We just have to tough it out for the next 5 days. I do know those 2 days before are killer cramps too.

You might ask your doctor for some Toradol. It's what we give postpartum women who have severe uterine cramps. It's an antiinflammatory, and it might bother your bladder. I guess sometimes we have to weigh the good with the bad and figure out which pain we would rather live with....the period cramps, or the bladder pain. Ugh!

How are you both doing today? My cramps have finally let up some. I can at least get up and walk around. Got the naproxen today at docs so I'm all set for the next one. I was thinking last night that the cramps are actaully worse then the bladder pain. They are more intense of a pain. Sandy you are right. So many question to out weigh the rest. Which do we choose?

Hi Waterflow, I am doing ok. This period thing is really weird. This month I only had 3 days of it, but the pain started about a week before. Then during the year I have a period or I skip some months. Crazy, isn't it.
I hope you are feeling better today. Today my mind have alot of the ????. Not about the period thing but about other things.
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, just needed some time about ???????????.
Sending hugs, Trishann

Trishann, I hope the ????? you have are nothing really serious. :grouphug:
My period use to be like clock work. Same time every month. After getting older, say mid 20's, it went from same time same channel to what ever and which ever way it wanted to. I have times when it only lasts 3 days too and I skipped one month just one time long ago. The weirf part for me is day 2 I hardly have any bleeding and then boom. 3rd day afternoon is starts to almost just pour and lots of clots and then by evening it's back to hardly anything. Too bad there wasn't a magical pill (other then bc) to make it normal and pain free.

Mine is 3 days late and torturing me. Today I've been in bed with a migraine all day and that nagging backache that tells me my period is coming, but it's not going to come when I am ready for it...it's going to sneak up on me when I'm the least prepared then kick my butt! Its ALREADY kicking my butt and it hasn't even started yet.
I'm glad you're feeling better today and glad the naproxen is helping you!

Waterflow, my period is not like clock work at all. Never know when I will have one or how long. Even when I first started it was not like clock work. The only way I can tell is by the symptons and sometimes I have the symptons but no period. I know this will sound crazy but I have been hurting for about 2 months without having a period and then I finally had one that only lasted for only 3 days, but now I feel better, not hurting. I hope you continue to feel better too.
I guess it is all part of being a woman, and it sucks.
Sandy, I hope you start your period soon so that you can start feeling better to.
Sorry you are in so much pain, hopefully it will end soon.
Sending hugs, Trishann

Sandy, I think that is the worse kind of period. The one that waits and waits and waits. By the time it gets there you are worn out already. Take it easy and rest. Have you tried massaging your lower back like they do for labor pains? This has always helped me but I never had anyone to do it for me so had to do it myself but my arm would get tired.
Trishann, I don't know what I would have done if mine hadn't been like clock work during school. How did you manage? Have you checked to see if you might have a cysts on your ovary? I've had tons myself and from I was told they can mess up the cycle of everything too. SOrry you are having such an awful time with it.
I'm sorry for all women. We need a woman body break.

I have the cramping for 4-5 days before I start, extreme cramping 3-4 days of. Soooo I went to see my Gyn--I've been on BC for almost a year. It has helped--taking the before time down to 2-3 days--hasn't done anything for the during except lighten flow (which is great). Sooo I went to see her again yesterday and we scheduled my Hyesterectomy (and hernia repair) :woohoo: !! I have to wait until April to have my surgery--couple more periods and I'm done!!!!
I have serious hot and cold--night sweats too. I hate waking up and your head is all sweaty-Yuck! I don't figure this will go away with the hysterectomy. Too Bad.
It takes up such a huge part of your life--then add IC pain to it. It's horrible. Hope ya all feel better soon.

Finally!!! I started and have been on the couch all day long with my heating pad, popping advil, prelief, pyridium (because it messes up my bladder) and sleeping. Using the B&O suppositories which gave me the ability to get up and sit in this computer chair for a little while.
I watched Me, You and Dupree today to take my mind off the wicked curse all of us girls have to live with!
Tomorrow WILL be a better day. Do you find that you feel pretty darn good the week after your period starts? I look forward to that one week a month!

Reading all of these messages has reminded me of how I felt for the last 3 years of my "perimenopause". My cycles would be anywhere from 3 weeks to6 months, and my periods were very heavy and the cramps were so bad, even with prescription antiinflammatories, that I'd wake up after a couple of hours of sleep and would end up rolling around in the bed because I was in so much pain! I would get so excited when I would go a whole 6 months without a period, thinking I was finally in menopause, and then I'd get another one!   They finally ended for good about 3 years ago when I was 51. I'm so glad to be "post-menopausal"!

BC helped mine but I was tired of taking it. Feels like I have so many pills to take and remembering when to take which one decided to give it up. Good luck to you on your operation. Hope it goes smoothly.
My bleeding is so bad that without the tampon I couldn't move around in bed. Once I layed down I had to stay that way until I got up to go to the bathroom again. If I moved I would have an accident. The tampon is a wonderful thing! Just wished I had known how to use one years ago. I thought menopause started at 40??? I have another 8-9 years to go?

From what I understand, the average age is 51. Perimenopause can go on for quite a few years, and it's the time when periods can get really goofy. Since I have lupus, birth control was not an option for me to calm down my periods, and it's the reason I'm not on HRT. Other than hot flashes, which have pretty much faded away, I'm downright enjoying my post-menopausal life!
