Overdose

I did not know where to put this but I would like to ask a question. I take detrol la every day. I took one at 3 o'clock and then I would take other medicine later. I went to take other medicine and drop my pill on the floor. Got side track and took another detrol la at 10:00 o'clock, about 7 hours apart. Has anyone done this before and did you have any problems with it. I am kind of worry about it. I can't believe I did this.

I'm not sure, but I'd look in the phone book, find a 24 hour pharmacy to call & ask the pharmacist. Hope you have no problems.

(I got one of those 7 day pill boxes, I'd never remember without it!)

I did this before, back when I was on Detrol LA. (Mine wasnt totally an accident....I had thrown up 30 min after I had taken it and thought it came up, so I took another.) The only side effect I had was some serious retention. This was before I knew how to self cath, so I had to go to the ER to be cathed, after not being able to urinate for about 10 hours. It was rough! They put a foley in me, and it had to stay there for about 3 days. Meanwhile, they told me to force water, and go to the Dr. in a couple of days and have him take it out.

I dont know if you will have the same experiance or not, since I already had retention occasionally (during flares). But, hopefully, this wont happen to you.

Calling a 24 hour pharmacy is a good idea. Do you know how to self cath if you do go into retention? If not, then do not hesitate to go to the ER. (Not being able to go IS an emergency, and waiting wont make it better!)

Your Doctor would also know if this is a problem. If you see a Urologist he/she would know about this. They may have specific instructions for you to follow if it involves your Urinary System.

A Pharmacy is Great. To add to this, your Doctor should be notified. It's important to be honest with your Doctor in order to insure your best health!

Amy, thank you for letting me know. I don't self cath myself, never did. I call the 24 Pharmacy and they told me to call Poison control and they told me to call the 24 hour doctor emergency thing, but I don't want to bother the doctor if I will be ok. Right now I am ok, so I am hoping everything will be ok. Just feeling alittle funny but not nothing bad. The pill that I took was a time capsule so I am hoping I will not have to much problem. Thank you for sharing with me, it is just kind of scary to take a extra pill.

Kara, I am always honest with my doctor. I have no reason to lie to him. I was just afraid because this pill should be taken one time a day and I took it twice.

Kadi, I have a pill box too, but this week I did not fill it because we were busy getting the house repair before the ice storm. Well today I learn what is more important. Hard lessons will get your attention fast. Thank you Kadi.

Just thought of something else....you need to redo your pill box and dont take the Detrol at the reg time tomorrow, or you will end up overlapping again!!! Since you took the one 7 hrs later (with your nite meds), if you take tomorrows at your reg time, (the afternoon meds), then you will be overlapping them again. Not sure the right way to get back on schedule now, but it would be a good question to ask the Dr. or pharmacist, just to be safe.

Amy thank you for the reminder. I did not have much problems with the detrol la except being dowsy so I did not take my pain pill last night. The pain pill really knocks me out so I was afraid to take it. I was suppose to take the pain pill not the detrol. Did not sleep well last night, it was a rough night but I didn't want to take a chance on it.

I think I will be ok taking the detrol la about two hours later then the normal time I take it. I did not have the retention, I got up about 5 to 6 times to pee, pretty normal for me, I was surprise at that one.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me. It put me at ease and knowing what to watch out for, I did not worry so much. Just grateful I did not have to go to the ER.
