I have been on Elmiron for 4 months. I am feeling rather well at this time, being very careful about diet and I had a hydridistention, all helping me I believe. My question: If I stay on elmiron for a year ( I have no idea what is normal) can my Doctor take another picture of the bladder at that time and do you think it would appear improved? It sure looked like a train wreck the first time! Of course this would be if I remain improving and don't have a bad set back. I'm loseing my hair big time but if Elmiron is helping I will deal with it no mater what. Maybe I'm one of the few people that it helps. I have read here that many people were not helped or became ill on Elmiron so I consider myself lucky even with hair loss. Thanks for any feed-back. Ziggy

Hi Ziggy,
your bladder may feel better, and the elmiron will help the gag layer, and give it more elasticity. There is no cure for IC, I don't know it the pictures would be the same or better. My guess would be the same as the first. Which means it is not getting any worse.

it may look a little different each time due from what angle your Dr. takes the pictures of your bladder, but over all it should be a bit better due to your elimron or bladder installments or about the same. since their isn't yet a cure for IC yet.
we still have hope!!
sending you hugs and prayers.

I asked my uro that very same question and she said that she has re-done cytos with hydrodistentions after successful treatment to see very pink and healthy bladder tissue. She explained that an ic bladder can heal but it is inevitable that it will return. She believes ic is autoimmune in nature.
