Okay, so here's the bathroom situation. We traveled 81 highway (which at some point switches to 35 then 45, but its all the same) from here straight to Galveston. Bathrooms were easy to come by there, seriously one like every 10-15miles. I would suggest going at the stop in Conroe TX or before though, b/c once you get into Houston traffic it's nearly impossible to stop until you hit Galveston (took us about 1 1/2hrs with the traffic on the way down (it was like 4:00pm when we got started-rush hour)-maybe an hour on the way home, and it was much easier to get around b/c we weren't in any rush hour traffic). Then in Galveston there's convienence stores (I don't recomend the RACE WAY-I'd much rather pee myself then step into that again!) but the rest aren't too bad. While you're there go down the main drag quite aways, there are some AWESOME mansions to see! At the port there are restrooms right inside the check in terminal, then again in the back area (terminal 2) after you go through the security section.
Once on the boat, ours was the Splendor so some may be different, we entered on the 4th deck and there were bathrooms one stair level down. I was really getting nervous at first b/c I didn't see very many bathroom signs, but there's plenty, they're just kinda hidden. Basically there's one on about every other stair level at each end. I was shocked at first b/c there didn't seem to be any around the main dinning area or the theatre, but you just have to go down a level, and its not to far once you get used to the ship-seriously don't freak out like I did at first-there are plenty around. There's also a couple pretty close to the pool areas, and of course in you room.
Mexico-In Cozumel you'll walk down the peir a little ways to the port shops. At first glance you can't see any restrooms, but there is a bright yellow shopping mall on the pier. About halfway through it are restrooms, pretty clean too. Our catamaran had 2 bathrooms on it (nicer than I expected) and on the private beach they took us to there were also bathrooms, didn't use them though so not exactly sure where they are (if I'm in the ocean I'm not getting out). Uptown Cozumel 3miles from the pier. There are bathrooms, but you may have to look. Found one in a bar on a side street (again pretty clean), and the people are really friendly and will surely tell you where one is close enough-don't worry-I got myself so worked up that I felt sick until I realized that there were plenty around if you just look. Then again at the pier there's Senor Frogs-Go there because its fun and there's nice bathrooms. I danced with so many cute mexicans there.......:smile tee
Costa Maya. Its kinda a long walk to the pier, but once you're there its like a resort. There's a square full of shops and a big swimming pool bar, right across from it are clean restrooms. Our ship also gave us a map of the stores in the pier and there were bathrooms at the very beginning but I don't remember seeing them, I'm sure they're there though. Then if you venture out into the jungle-we took a 3mile taxi ride to Maujhal (sp)- it looks scary but its not, lots of nice beaches and drinks and shops. Only found one bathroom there, but I didn't bother looking too closely, only used it b/c I didn't want to get back into the water again. It wasn't the cleanest but about halfway down there's a white resturaunt and it has showers and bathrooms in a back alley. I wouldn't advise going alone, for some reason there was a lock on the outside of the door, but it was clean enough if you need to go and don't want to do it in the ocean. Again in Maujhal if you ask they'll tell you where one is. My theory is that the ocean's probably cleaner though to go in! Hope this helps all of you who are thinking about going. Seriously I had no problems except getting myself soooo worked up about it all.
Departure was nothing big. There's restrooms right there also and it didn't take us long at all to depart. We did this new Travel-lite thing were we got off first if we carried our own luggage. Worked out great!
Just try to remember and tell yourself that these are tourist attractions, there's going to be bathrooms and that there's a lot of people drinking so they're prepared for people to be peeing. Most of all have FUN!! It was such a blast! Hope to see you all in Cozumel next January with me!!
