I am currently taking 50mg of Elavil a night to sleep. I was on it for a month before taking 10-20mg and was doing -okay-. I don't know if raising my dose has made me better lately or if the elmiron (started nov 30th) is starting to work, so I'm a little nervous about wanting to lower my Elavil dosage. The reason I want to lower it is because I can't stop eating! I thought I would be fine on it, but since I've gone up to 50mg, I never feel full! I crave sugar and carbs all the time. I already have a sweet tooth... so this is not good!! I'm also an actress and I can't put on this much weight. I think I've gained 5-10 pounds already and I don't see that stopping. It's really hard with the cravings to not eat... they are stronger than any other cravings I've had before.

Do you think trying to lower my dosage gradually by 10mg or 5 mg doses till I get down to 20 will be bad? I know I should ask my doctor, but I'm just wondreing if anybody has lowered their dosage successfully?

I started by going down 5 mg at a time for a few days and then another 5 mg until you get to where you want it. Make sure your Dr knows your doing this.

Please discuss this with your physician. You should not attempt to adjust medication dosages without the assistance of a medical professional.

You also need your doctor's help because you would need a prescription for the lower amount. Go slow. If it is the Elavil that is making you feel better you don't want to end up in a really bad flare.

Good luck,
