How long before you know if it helped?
I didn't have too much pain Fri. or Sat., but a few hours after I removed the catheter on Saturday afternoon I started to have pain and Sunday I thought I was going to die. My period started on Monday, just what I needed right? I don't feel too bad now, as long as I take my pain meds, but I am not going to the bathroom any less than I was before and I have more pain now than I did before. Maybe I need more time to heal?
Also, my doctor didn't say very much to my husband. All he said was that it wasn't as bad as he thought and that he did a biopsy. I guess I'll have to wait until the 23rd to find out how everything went. Hopefully I will feel better by then too.

I'm feeling better right away, but I know alot of people who it took weeks to help if at all. I just think I was really badly poisoned due to long term urine retention so everything feels better since I can pee. :)
I hope you feel better really soon!

the first few days after I had mine were absolute hell. No, the worst was while I was still in the hospital and they made me void while I could barely stand up I was in so much pain. It was 4 yrs ago, but I will never forget. However, I believe that it did help put me into a remission. I began feeling better around a month after the hydro was done if I remember correctly. I ws also put on amytriptyline and hydroxizine and HBC at the same time, so it may have been a coincidence though. My capacity was very low (a few tablespoons???), and my bladder was supposedly stretched significantly. I think that this definately helped the frequency. I still am amazed at how much my capacity eventually increased to. 6 months ago I could have held cups of fluid, now I am at about 1/4 cup :(
Even if your IC doesn't look too bad (as far as glomerulations go), if your bladder was very small it could make things feel so much worse.
I hope the hydro ends up helping you. They are horrible to go through, but if they help a lot they are worth it!

I had my first Cysto in 2003 and there was no polyp.
Three years later, and there was one polyp.
Anyone else experience polyps? I'm a bit nervous waiting for my biopsy results which I will get on the 19th.
Also, have a polyp now I am "guessing" that I may have to be "watched" closer?
Any input would be appreciated!:smile tee

cynb2003, I had polyps removed back in 1974 or 75 and they have not returned. I know I was nervous waiting for biopsy results, but the results showed no problem. Sometimes polyps do recur, but I don't worry about it any more.

Thanks for responding....I feel a little bit better hearing that!:)
Hopefully I will be as lucky as you with no recurring polyps!

It's been 2 weeks since the cysto/hydro. I still have moderate abdominal pain and my lower back pain returned 2 days ago. My back pain was the reason my doc wanted to do it, hoping it would relieve the pain, and help with the frequency.
I am peeing every 45 minutes to an hour and I get up 2-3 times at night. I see my doc on Tuesday to get the results of my biopsy. He told me that if this didn't help he thought I should have the Interstim put it. I'm not going to do it. I am tired of feeling like a guinea pig!
July I had a Urodynamics tests. I had another one in Sept. and did 6 weeks of DMSO. I had an MRI on my lower back in Oct., a Catscan and a Colonoscopy in Nov., a Laparoscopy in Dec. and the Cysto/Hydro 2 weeks ago. I'm tired of being poked and prodded with no results. I give up!!! The stress of having all of these tests and procedures isn't helping. I think I would probably feel better if I was just left alone.
Another problem though is that I know I'm going to have to quit my job, I haven't been to work since Sept. 19th, I'm out on Short Term Dissability right now and if I don't work I don't know how we are going to pay our bills.
This sounds like a soap opera huh? I just needed to vent, sorry.

I got my results today from Cysto/Hyro I had done on the 12th.
All of the biopsies came back negative and my Uro says there is marked improvement from when I had this done 3 years ago! :woohoo:
My bladder capacity has also improved from 650cc to 750cc!
The Elmiron has definately made a difference in my life and I hope to see marked improvement!
