I just wanted to share this...and knock on wood it will continue. Those of you who have seen me on here know I've had chronic severe IC pain for almost 3 years. Well I just finished Esthetician school and learned alot in my courses about skin health and nutrition. About 1 1/2 weeks ago I started drinking 8 oz. of 100% pure carrot juice per day for my skin. (I just turned 37 so I do what I can to fight that time machine...) Two days ago I brought that down to 4 oz. per day. I drink it in the morning. I started to notice I had more energy than normal, and it was easier to get up in the mornings. I also noticed I'm thinking much clearer than I normally do. I've always worn glasses for night driving, and my vision is now CRYSTAL CLEAR at night! Guess what else....my bladder has calmed way, way down. Oh ya and my skin looks great, lol. I ate 4 chocolate chip cookies 3 nights ago without incident! I also ate a sweet onion chicken Terriyakee (sp?) sandwich from Subway. (I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE DOING THIS...I don't want anyone to get too brave and hurt themselves with chocolate and other foods! I just knew I wasn't working this week and decided to try it.) Anyway, I read up some more on benefits of carrot juice and apparantly 4-8 oz. per day is like an energy bomb. Not only is it great for your skin and hair, but my doctor told me carrot juice is excellent for people with chronic illnesses, ulcers and the like. (((Funny he never told me about it before))) I took myself off Valium a week ago. The only medication I'm taking right now is 10 mg of Elavil at night. This is ........ CRAZY! I felt some bladder twinges the other night and took a couple of gulps of carrot juice..it soothed it right away. I'm convinced I've had some vitamin deficiancy for a long time. Even if the IC comes back my vision is AWESOME now. So if anyone wants to look into it further, google "benefits of carrot juice" and you'll get lots of good info. Here's a good link http://www.living-foods.com/articles/carrotjuice.html

Also.............don't go drinking like 1/2 gallon of carrot juice a day. It IS possible to get too much vitamin A and Beta Carotene. My doctor and the owner of my health food store said 8 oz. per day for a couple of weeks is fine, then a maintenance dose of 4 oz. per day would be ok. I am one that does not eat many vegetables, so I can tolerate this. Please keep in mind everyone is different so check w/your doc first. ;) If you drink too much carrot juice you will eventually sport a very unsightly yellow/orange oompaloompa hugh. So, for longterm no more than 4 oz. per day.

Well we post all the time about drugs, I thought this might help someone down the line. Its helped me feel good for about a week now, and I'll take what I can get. :smile tee

I received a juicer for Christmas and have been drinking fresh juice daily (apple, carrot, mango, orange, watermelon, etc--fortunately I'm not too terribly food sensitive!). However, I havent noticed any of the benefits that you've mentioned.
Like with everything else, each person will react differently I suppose..:)

Its good to hear though that you're feeling better since starting on the carrot juice..:)

take care

Funny you posted this. I just bought some carrot juice this weekend. I didn't like the taste of it, so I mixed 1/4 cup of carrot juice with 3/4 cup of pear juice over ice. I didn't have the amazing results you did, but I did notice that my energy level was very good afterwards. It is very high in sugar, so I had it as part of a protein rich meal, so no energy crash low later.

Pretty good stuff.

Thanks for posting this information. Right now I'm so frustrated with food issues I could spit. It's reassuring to know some folks can do well.

Momelf, I'm with you! I'm having such major food issues myself...I just can't seem to get it right, I keep thinking I'm trying so hard to get it right, and I'm always in pain, and then I'll read something on here and realize I shouldn't have eaten that! Or I'll think I'm eating something good and then realize after more careful observation that there is some ingredient in something that I shouldn't be eating...It's so frustrating, I feel like we are so limited to what we can eat, and I LIKE to EAT, so it's so hard...I'm still working on it though and still trying to figure it all out!
Good luck to you.

Thanks, Kari. Yup, don't much care for the taste of carrot juice, but sure can up the intake of carrots. Thanks to Jeannie for initial post. Went to my primary care doc today and am grateful she is referring me to a nutritionist -- because of my frustration in choosing the rights foods. Should be interesting. Good luck to all of you too!

Is it hard to find a nutrionist that is knowledgeable in IC? Let me know how you make out with one and maybe I'll look into it also.
Thanks,
Kari
