I had an endometrial abalation 04/05. (they burned the uterine lining becausing my period were very heavy). Four months later I had severe lower abdominal pain right where the pubic bone is. It feels like someone has taken a sledge hammer and hit me there. No cramping just constant severe pain that lasts from 3 -7 hours. I cannot function. This is accompanied by constipation. I went to my gyno who did a ultrasound and found some of the lining was still in my uterus so she did a D&C. No pain for two months afterwards then the pain came back. She suggested a colonoscopy that came back clean then she suggested a urologist for I.C. The only symptoms I had when I went to see the urologist was frequent urination during my periods (I have an enlarged uterus). and the onset of the severe pain. I have NEVER had an UTI, pain during sex, urgency, etc. He did the Hydrodistension with me out. He blew the body up to 900 cc's. and the the bladder began to bleed. He diagnosed me for IC. The next day I had severe burning in my vagina like someone had taken a hot curling iron and put it up my vaginal canal. I called him and he prescribed Pyrdium. After 5 days and no relief the pain was getting worse I went to the emergency room where they said my urethera was inflamed and infected they gave me antibiotics. Since then (10 months ago). I have had burning, itching, urgency and frequency (before the Hydro my voiding diary showed 8 -10 times in a 24 hour period). After the Hydro it went up to 28-32 times in a 24 hour period. Before the Hydro I never experienced ANY of the above symptoms. Now even sex is painful. The severe lower abdominal pain is still there and comes every 18 - 25 days. I have been able to drink wine, orange juice, etc. with no increase in the pain. Does anyone know if this is normal? Could the Hydro have given me I.C.? I saw another urologist who does not believe I have I.C.
I'm confused. Any help is appreciated!

Juniebug,
I had the same thing happen to me, it seemed my symtoms got worse after the hydro, But what the dr said is that, IC can hit you all of a sudden, that is was not the hydro it was the IC, I also got 2 other opinions and both drs said the same thing that IC can come out of no where, thats part of the mystery of this disease..I have had trouble believing this and I know alot others on here looks for some kind of rhyme or reason for the cause of IC.

I think stress was what got my IC flared up, I think I have had it always and my body kept it hidden, and then the stress triggered it.. Some people on here thinks it came from trauma due to surgery and some think they were just born with it.. Thats why its a mystery... Know one knows the true cause of IC...

if you are concerned, which I would be if you have one saying yes IC and one saying no IC. I would seek a 3rd opinion. my first hydro they could not go over 350 cc's. with my 2nd, and with the interstim he took it to 65o cc's and the pain was horrible. I bled for a week and was pretty much bedridden. a year or so later I had a urodymantics test and my bladder only held 200ccs.
go with your gut on what you think is right.

First of all, my suggestion has to be to have a look at the IC diet in the Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook and get yourself on an IC diet. If you're not following the diet, there's absolutely no possible way you can know you don't have diet issues.

If the diet does help, then you can begin to try some variations to the diet, but I don't think it's a good idea for at least a few weeks.

Sending healing thoughts,
Donna
