so, I read on here someone had strips to test themself for a UTI at home. I was wondering where these strips could be found. Since being diagnosed, I have been wondering how I would be able to differentiate btwn a flare and infection, this could def. help. Plus does anyone know if elmiron or atarax turns the urine cloudy? I know this is a sign of infection, but I didn't know if it could be a side effect. Thanks

Click on the ICN shop link at the top of the page. You will find the UTI test kits in there.

I don't think either Atarax or Elmiron turn the urine cloudy. You should probably get this checked out by your doctor if you're having increased symptoms.

Hope you feel better soon!

The Longs Drugs by me sells Azo test kits for UTI that tests for both WBC's and Nitrites. They aren't cheap and only have strips for 3 tests. Using those has greatly decreased my phone calls to the doctor as I frequently, as in once a month or so, have UTI type symptoms. Of course if symptoms persisted more than a couple days in spite of a negative test I would call the doc. I've tested many times and when one of the tests was positive for both I had a lab test and did have bacteria and needed antibiotics so I think they are accurate. One time I had pain with urination & frequency and with the test there were WBC's but not nitrites. The UA tested positive for white cells and the culture was negative. My doctor the WBC's it could be due to inflammation caused by IC. The tests have been a good tool for me as I dislike calling the doctor's office frequently.

I use the Bayer 10 Dip stick that is used in physicians offices. They run about 70.00 per 100 and I get them at Walgreens they special order them for me. Almost any pharmacy will special order them, they require no RX as they are just a diagnostic test. They test the urine for 10 different things some of which are: Blood, nitrates, white cells, PH, specific gravity, protein and so on.

thanks for all the feedback, I was trying to figure out how I would be able to tell the difference w/o having to constantly call my doctor
