hello everyone. i have been reading posts on here for about a month now,you can imagine how much it has helped me.so i decided i should probably share my story. i am a 28 year old mother of 2,with an absolutely wonderful and understanding husband.i started having pretty painful pelvic pains after my first laparascopic surgery to remove a pretty large fibroid in may of 06.this whole last summer i was in pain, kept going back to my gyn, they said finally in sept. that it was prob. adhesions and scheduled surgery for Nov.3. well had that prcedure done, and while they were in there decided to have tubes tied to.after that, still had pain, even worse actually.was in dr. office weekly,he says i'll be fine, its just from the surgery, well i know my body and knew it wasn't from the surgery.finally threw a fit, ended up in e.r. because the pain was so bad.my dr. decides to do the PST.on me,for something called ic.well obviously never heard of it until then,so i decided to look everything up on it i possibly could.by the ime they did the test i knew this is what i had.since then i found a wonderful uro who specializes in ic,am on elmiron, elavil, pyridium, and hydrocodone for pain.Jan. 18 i am getting my first bladder instill. done.so far nothing has worked, the pain meds are helping the best, but i find they don't last the full 4 hours they are supposed to.but the best thing has been finding this site,i think you women are the kindest, compassionate women.i don't feel like a crazy lady anymore:loco: i just want to thank everyone on here for doing what you do.i am trying to stay positive, some days are def. better than others though!anyway theres my story, happy reading, and i worship you forever:bow: lol

Hi and welcome, I am glad you found this site. And no you are not crazy. I am sorry the pain medicine only work temporarily for you. I hope you can discuss this with your doctor and see if something else can be done to help the pain.
I hope the elmiron and stuff will help you get better, sometimes it takes alittle time.
You are so welcome here, Trishann :hi:

Welcome! I just joined the site in the last few days and it's already been a huge help. Now my hope is that in some way I can help you guys too.
As for pain meds -- if it's not lasting the full four hours, ask the Dr. if the dose can be increased or the time can be reduced (I have percocet prescribed for every three hours). I've also found that combining a muscle relaxant with the painkiller can increase its effectiveness.
Of course, some of those muscle relaxants can make you WAY more relaxed than you'd really want to be :-)

Just a little something my fiance told me about that seems to work for her. If you take an Aleive or two when you feel the pain meds beginning to wear off and the pain starting to come back, it seems to extend the pain-killing effect a little while longer. I dont think this would do anything for break-thru pain but just if the pain med seems to wear off too soon when dealing with the "normal" pain.
Hope this helps a bit. I am pretty astounded, the more I read about this condition, of how many people get treated poorly with this condition. Be it by unsympathetic doctors, coworkers or husbands. My fiance is having a hard enough time with this as she was recently diagnosed a couple of months ago. I could only imagine how much harder this would be for her if I just thought she was making a big deal over nothing, didnt believe her or worse, began accusing her of it all being in her head. Best of luck to all you folks with this condition. This deal seems, although the physical symptoms are huge part, a very mental condition as well.
You ladies with the crappy husbands that treat you like crap and a whiner.....There are us guys out here that understand and are supportive. I know that doesnt help much but maybe after a while, the ones that dont get it, will see that there are ones that do and eventually get their butts in here and start trying to understand what it is ya'll have and how to be supportive.
Good luck to all of you and God bless!

thanks so much for the info, i am really going to try that next time and see if it works,i'll let you know.you seem very nice and supportive to your fiance.its great to see,my husband is also very supportive,he does anything he can to help me out,i wish i could say the same for my family, they are very rude and cold people, and they feel like anytime someone is sick, they are trying to get attention, yea i wish it was just that.i know it sounds rude but i wish i could give them all my pain for just a day and see where their thoughts are from there. i am starting to get numb to the way they act,and i will not let their negativity affect my life,i am blessed to have a wonderful husband and 2 great kids as my own family.tell your fiance to take care of herself, and keep being supportive, thats the best thing you can do.

First of all, I'd like to say :welcome: to the IC Network.
Many ICers find ibuprofen-type drugs are an IC trigger so I'd be very cautious about taking Aleve until you know.
Warm hugs,

my story is, i was dx on Oct 4th 2006 and i hadn't heard of ic either, i am now going to a dr. in Memphis TN, because my dr. here said he was stunned that i wasn't getting any better. I had DOS done and bleed for 12 hours with it and it didn't work. this was done by the dr in town here. The Dr. in Memphis is sending me for therapy starting this tuesday Jan 16 and then 4 more weeks worth and then i go back to him. has anyone had thereapy and if so did it work? My dr. said my muscles were spasing and he was not sure if that is why i am in so much pain or my muscles are spasing because i am in so much pain. i am only on soma and hydrocodone and elmroin. what advise can anyone give me. Does exercies help anyone i hurt so much afterwords i have quit, now i have put on 19lbs. i am going to have to do something different.thanks for all advice and help i can get from anyone.
