Tomorrow, I am going in for the 2nd Pudendal Nerve Block. This is purely diagnostic and not to offer long term relief. We are just trying to narrow down what is happening. They've been having trouble finding veins for the IV and really having trouble sedating me. This upsets me. I just want this to be over! I dont' know what I did in life to deserve all of this. I am trying to fight hard but it's definetely hard.
Thanks for supporting me! I promise when I get things sorted out, I will be back to help as much as I can.
Sincerely,
Kara

Kara,
I have no veins left(it usually takes a minimum of 5 sticks)and my doc mentioned having a port-a-cath put in for IV access and blood draws. Good luck tomorrow and hoping that they are able to get the additional info they need.
Hugs,
Barb:)

Hello Kara,
I wish you good luck with this nerve block..
Please dont get disouraged, You are now on the right road to getting some pain relief.. You can only go foward, I know its so hard to stay positve when you hurt so bad...But Kara I know the lord is with you, and he is not going to let you down..You are here for a reason hun and God will not let you down..
I know this because of all I have went through, when I was at the end of my rope, he came to the rescue..He knew I could not handle anymore mental pain.
Where you have been through so much physical pain, I almost lost my life due to mental pain...
So even though its not the same pain , we both know they both can make you just want to give up.
But Kara, I know you are a fighter or you wouldnt keep trying to find new ways to help you, I have a strong feeling that soon you will get some well deserved relief.
Keep your spirits up and if you need to talk or just scream or anything, please pm me..I am always here for you:smile tee

:grouphug: Good luck! You didn't do anything to deserve this. :grouphug:
I have had port a caths...in my leg and my chest back when I was living at Mayo. I have scars in my leg. My parents say it left a scar because the nurse made a mistake but others have scars too. My veins had collapsed so much back than it was necessary. :grouphug: :grouphug:

Dear Kara,
Hope all goes well today and they get the vein on the first try! Barb had a great idea about getting a port!! That could definately be a handy thing for you with the trouble you are having!
Hang in there! After today you will be 1/2 way thru the diagnostic portion of the nerve block series! Good luck! Love and hugs, Amy

Before I go down the road of port-o-cathing. I decided to try one more thing. When I was in the hospital the last time for a week. They would wrap my arms in a hot wet towel and then wrap a chuck around that so I would not get wet and the heat would stay in. I bought some thermal care heat wraps and wraped them around my arms and wrists. The are supposed to stay hot for 8 hours. I hope this helps. I wont take them off until they are just about to do the IV. When I get cold, my veins collapse. I aksed them 20 times to get me warm blankets last week but they kept on forgetting. I will also be hanging my arms down the sides of the bed. That helps the blood to flow to the arms and hands.

After packing all of my stuff and driving an hour to my parents yesterday. Woke up today, got ready, drove over to the Hospital, waited for an hour, then we find out that the nerve block is not happening today because the doctor got sick. 5 nurses were waiting for me and all ready, including a special IV nurse. They didn't even know he went home sick until we told them. I guess he just slipped out very quietly. They said he has NEVER ONCE called in sick, so he must be REALLY sick. I wouldn't be upset if I hadn't had to travel to get here. Now I have to go all the way home and come back next Thursday. It just delays this whole process for another whole week and when you are in this much pain, it really sucks. But I have to be understanding because the doctor can't help getting sick. I am not mad at him, I am just frustrated at the whole process. I still have to have two more of these blocks after this one next week. I knew I would be doing this all winter long.
I am done complaining. I just needed to get it all out of my system.
Thanks for the well wishes anyway!
I hope you all have much better days today!

I'm so sorry! This is awful. Are they rescheduling soon? Sheesh. What a thing to happen. :( Hope they reschedule very soon.
On the other hand, it's a good note that the doctor didn't want to operate on you until he was at his absolute best. That means he wants to do his best for you.
Blessings,
Lori

Thank you ladies!
It is rescheduled for Next Thursday. I just saw the news and they said there is a HUGE stomach bug going around here that is knocking people out flat. The nurses and his secretary of several years have said that he has NEVER once called in sick or gone home sick so he must be Very ill. I feel so bad for him. I hope it doesn't last long.

Kara, I know what you mean about your veins . I have been poked as many as 12 times . I blow easy. One thing that works for me is as you mentioned the warm cloth. Also ask them to use the smallest needle they can. That seems to lessen the chance of your veins blowing or at least it does for me. I am praying for you Kara. Your story has been an inspiration to me . One thing that gets me thru tough times is to remember: I can do all things thru him who strenthen me.
HUGS !

I am just like you with trying to get IVs in and veins collapsing. I am not sure if you are having anesthesia or not for this procedure, but in instances where I am having anesthesia for the procedure I demand that the anesthesiologist put in the IV, as they are soooo experienced at it and then I do not have a problem. I once had a nurse, who obviously did not want to get someone else possibly for fear she would lose her job, not sure, that poked and tried for 45 minutes to get the IV into my vein. Ever since that, I will ask for the anestesiologist to do it if I am having anesthesia for the procedure.
