Saw my gynecologist because I kept having feelings of spontaneous arousal which was becoming very annoying. He said what I am feeling is actually coming from my G-Spot and can be caused fom the IC. Does anyone else experience this and if so what do you do to help this? It has been going on for so long and is driving me crazy. Any input would be great. Thanks.

I have seen posts from ICers having the same problem. Hopefully some will respond.

I, too, experience unwanted sexual feelings with IC. I wouldnt call it arousal but when my urethra spasms uncontrollably, i feel a tugging on my clitoris and sometimes it becomes so intense, i almost climax. it is NOT pleasant, it is not wanted and it is embarressing.
As a small child i remember clearly my first UTI and locking myself in the bathroom to masturbate as it was the only relief i could experience. My mother having never had a UTI had no idea when i would cry and tell her i have to urinate all the time and i found this was my only way of a few moments respite from the agony. I guess the pressure of rubbing around my urethra also was soothing. This is a very embarressing aspect of IC and one which is difficult to explain. orgasm is always associated with pleasure in most peoples minds and to experience it in the idst of intense pain is an alien thought and so one which i suspect, many would not admit to.
I found a lot of support from the psas website. persistant sexual arousal syndrome. although i do not have this condition, the women and men there understand much of what we experience. the unwanted sensation in our private places which drive us to distraction and interfere with our lives
I am happy to disuss this anytime Alissa..please do not feel ashamed....you have not asked for this anymore than your other symptoms and if on occassion you experience some pleasure in midst of all your pain, it does not negate the pain you experience
hugs, i wish none of us would have our sexuality compromised in such a way
havnt we lost enough?

Like Donna said, there have been others who have mentioned this over the years. If you do a search of the boards or of the entire site you may find posts from some of them.

To search the boards look above on the blue "header" for the word search and click on it. To search the site go to this link and be sure to click on "www.ic-network.com" so it only searches this site:

I'm sorry you're having this symptom. That would be so annoying and uncomfortable. :(

Alyssa,

I just read your post...
I have the same problem, feels like a throbbing feeling in the clitoris right?
My Uro and Gyn said its called Clitordynia, but its caused by IC and the nerve that runs through the clitoris, and yes its the same nerve sensation that makes you feel aroused, It can drive me crazy sometimes..
My Gyn put me on Elavil 25mg and Cymbalta, they are used to treat the nerve pain and has help so much!!
I have done alot of research on clitordynia and so has people on this site, but unfortunately there is not much information on it.. I really dont think drs know much about it either and just blames it on IC...But ask your dr about Elavil, because it seems to help alot... Hope this helps you:smile tee

It's very frustrating to have this ALL the time, EXCEPT, when you want to be intimate and then all arousal shuts down.

Talk about a relationship killer. :(

I have it too. For me it gets worse when my bladder is feeling better and vice versa. I get the feeling of "fullness" in my vagina and the tingly clit. I agree that it is NOT fun, and when I actually want such feelings they tend to go away, interesting eh? I also thought I was the only one that this happened to because it isn't really talked about. But, I posted my symptoms on another IC message board, and a whole bunch of people told me that they experienced it too.

I remember when I was first dx with IC and my doctor gave me an internal. He pressed on my g-spot and I seriously nearly peed on him. I had to clamp my muscles down so hard, which of course made the sensations worse. I was 15 at the time and I associated this pain/intense pressure with me being a virgin. Even though I am still technically a vigin I know that the pain I experienced was because of the IC.

Since my IC has come back, I went on a little exploratory adventure and discovered that touching my g-spot is once again extremely painful. It is due to everything down there being so close to one another, and I am confident that the vaginal problem will go away when the IC does...the only problem is getting rid of the IC!

Yes, I have episodes of this as well -- talk about annoying. For me it is very intermittent though and tends to go hand-in-hand with my IC flares.

You should know that there is a syndrome called Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome (PSAS) -- you can do a Google search for it and find support groups and information for this. You might want to check into it if you are having the arousal feeling on a daily basis; there are certain drugs that have been shown to relieve the feeling in some cases, and there are others that have been shown to make it worse, so you may want to print out the info you find and take it to your gyno, since many docs don't know of this. It's a relatively new designation for the condition.

Thanks everyone for your support. My Uro didn't really know anything about this. So that made me feel even more alone, but now I can help educate him. When I explained what was happening he said he had never heard of that (the arousal symptoms) but he also said it would make sense with all the nerves and how everything is just connected. But I needed to know other people experienced this too. Maybe none of his other patients felt able to talk about it. It was very hard for me to do it. Thanks again for the support.

Alyssa

I have these exact same symptoms! I have a throbbing, engorged, tingling, stabbing sort of pain!
It gets worse as my bladder fills and is the worst feeling I have ever experienced!!!
The only thing that helps me is to have a hot bath :-(
Are you taking any meds for it??
My urologist said that I have damage/irratation to the pudendal nerve (which he believes is the cause of IC) which gives me these strange sensations.

I thought it was just me who suffered with them so its such a relief to know I am not alone. i was terrified I was going mad.

In my case,i beleive the ennoying irritation comes from irritable colon sigmoid.

Although,it's in the lower bladder area.

I'm a male.

yep i get those feelings too.... i try to ignore mine, and go about my day to day things, and not think about them. Not sure i want anymore meds at this point! I figured it was related to the IC, as it seems most everyything is, and i am just learning how to live with it all!

I have definitely noticed that the "sexual symptoms" i have dramatically increase with my periods. this ist he last month i am having one, then i am going to do continous birth control and only have a period every two to three months. i was having great success on the elavil til about a week ago, right befor emy period, than BAM. they thought i had another UTI, gave me some anti's, but turned out to be completely clean, so, yep, a flare. on top of that, i am WAAAAAAY stressed with wedding stuf, and the whole concept of it...17 days! excited but stressed and overwhelmed!

Wow, I think just being in a wedding right now would stress me out enough to flare, let alone getting married!
