I have been put on Celexa for depression due to chronic pain from IC, Endometriosis and Ovarian Cysts. This was a last resort for me after 20 years. Though this is one medication I am taking in conjunction with others, I have found it has helped but with one negative.....WEIGHT GAIN! :help: Has anyone experienced this? I have been working out, watching my diet and have been able to at least maintain. But haven't lost YET. So I suppose gaining a little weight is better than depression and pain! But just curious. I hear this is the least symptomatic of all Antidepressants!!! Same with reduction of libido...no reduction of libido for me! :woohoo:

Celexa helped me for like a month, aside from being tired no other side effects for that med. There were others that had some nasty effects on me though!

Jen,
Thanks for replying. Well I suppose I have to contribute the weight gain to the birth control then. I am on Seasonale where there are no placebos. The docs want to keep me on a constant flow of hormones to keep away the nasty cysts....lucky me. Plus it's for the Endo and the pain. Not sure if it works for the IC. As you can see from my list I take the MSContin for the IC as the pain is unbearable. Celexa is supposed to have the least amount of side effects of all of the anti depressants. After 18 years of trying different meds I have finally found a good mixture that works so far....crossing fingers. It has been a rough road.

Yep birth control, if not prescribed properly (example, wrong hormone dosage!!!) can cause weight gain, personally I gained 30 pounds while on antidepressants several years ago.
I can't stress enough the importance of getting your estrogen & progesterone levels checked since you're on the birth control, they may not have you on the right one which is so common it's sad! This is partially because doctor's are ignorant & don't test our hormone levels before prescribing! Yes it's a guessing game but atleast they'd know which one we need more of, geez common sense, now there's a thought :)

Thanks Jen....I will look into that. Had no idea. It's frustrating to think you try to watch what you eat and you exercise yet you continue to gain!!! Freaks me out. At the moment I am stable but this is the heaviest i have been since I was pregnant 12 years ago. But there are always pros and cons with trying to get OUT of pain. Just can't win for losing. I will talk to my doc. Thanks for the info!! :smile tee

You're welcome glad I could help! Fortunately I lost the weight but even with my high metabolism it took me a few months to lose it.

Jen,
Do my eyes deceive me or are you in remission for IC?? I need to email you yes? If so, I would love to know all about it. Also, what is your magic losing the weight being on birth control aside from your high metabolism...can you share?

Rhoda,
yes I'm in remission!! I'm the oddball of my family, everyone else is overweight & gains weight just from looking @ food. I'm not kidding about that either! I wouldn't recommend how I lost the weight to anyone actually, I got a sinus infection last december (in 2005), nothing tasted good so I didn't eat much, got back on my supplements & vitamins once I got rid of the infection, & in desperation to feel like a whole new person I kept increasing what I was taking because I was feeling better, this however also caused me to have a loss of appetite too. So, I didn't eat a whole heck of a lot for around 2 months, yea I ate 3 times a day but I didn't snack due to no appetite to do so. Our finances wouldn't permit my using the vitamin & supplemental route anymore so I went to the doctor & got back on birth control for my hormonal imbalance issues. I do exercise daily though, I use a Air Walker & Recumbent bike 5 min. each, each morning & I feel great because of it!
you can e-mail me for the rest of the information I have it in a Word document.
