Since people have answered my posting about illnesses causing a flare, despite taking care not to ingest anything on the no-no list, what do you do about it?

Do you take pain meds or what? Do you drink sodium bicarbonate and water? Do you get a rescue instillation?

People do get sick sometimes, so I would like to know what I am supposed to do about a flare during another illness?

Thanks.

When you have a cold or virus...or any infectious ailment your body does get more acidic to help fight it off....so whatever you do when you cheat on your diet is a good thing to do than as well.

Other than that helping your immune system...vitamin E, garlic, plenty of water and rest, Zinc, L-Lysine, ester C if you can tollerate it...I tend to take extra Desert harvest to give some soothing to my bladder. I am looking into possibly adding Echinacea to my list of things I take when "sick".

Hope that gives you some ideas. Hope you feel better soon!!

good question
have come down with an awful cold, heavy head, migraine, throat, whooping cough, chest hurting etc so took beechams power plus capsules instead of the sachets thinking I would avoid the lemon but I think it had some absorbic acid or something in it!

now resorting to just honey and water and balms and hoping to ride it out!

have no idea what to take for a cough that doesn't make flare worse but I think it is a given for me that I am not going to find cold relief stuff that doesn't flare me as I have already been IC bad for months!

just had a hydro and was hoping for relief from it as been feeling a teeny bit better over xmas day and boxing day ...urgghh!

Antihistmines as long as they don't have a decongestant in them often help IC.

IC friendly treatment for colds: Breathe Right Nasal Strips
Breathe Right Vapor Shot cup (you drop a tablet in & inhale the vapors)
Vicks VapoRub, tons of rest, Alavert Allergy, Afrin No Drip Severe Congestion spray, Hot pear juice with honey (soothes cough),
Ricola regular herb drops (no colorants, use sparingly),
Lots of hot showers, Homemade chicken soup,
Johnson's baby vapor bath (has eucalyptus & menthol in it),
Migraine Ice patches to stick on forehead for headache
warm compresses on forehead & cheeks, Colostrum is mothers first milk...It has all the nutrients needed for a healthy and strong immune system. The Colostrum that is sold in the stores is from bovine. You can get it at any health food store. Again, not every one can tolerate it...we are all different,.
Garlic
Also...try some HONEY. It has so many "healing" effects in it and it's so soothing when you have a cold. drink honey (warm) water.

I find that I may take a bit longer to get better than someone without the chronic illnesses that I have. Here are a few things I have learned along the way:

Get a flu shot every year
Try to exercise 45 min. every day to prevent illness
Drink lots of water
Use saline nasal sprays if necessary to soothe nasal passages
Use decongestant sprays sparingly (I use one spritz in each nostril, but won't do it more than once a day.)
Use a humidifier in your room...use distilled water in it so you don't have the minerals
Eat other Vitamin C rich foods: broccoli, cabbage, potatoes, squash, sweet potatoes, etc
Allow the body to use its magic..........sleep! Cancel your appointments, call in sick, get a sitter for the kids...do what ever you need to to be able to sleep as much as possible.
Camommile tea, blueberry tea, peppermint tea, etc are all good hot beverages that can help open nasal airways
Take a bath in epsom salts, breathing the air in deeply while you soak. All very healing......

That is a wonderful question!!!:smile tee
