I was really good yesterday. I avoided all the candy, mayonnaise, whatever I knew was on your list as well as my own list from 1994 from the American Federation of Pain Research. I took all my meds.
I'm in a flare. The only thing I ate that was possibly different:
My husband flavored the roast beef with slivers of cut garlic and I know I inadvertantly chewed and swallowed some
Also, the rolls were the store-bought kind that are already shaped and made;you just put them in the oven to brown. Maybe they had preservatives?
I ran out of Aquafinia water at night and had to begin Deer Park, but that was after the pain had already begun.
I don't know what to make of all this. I honestly thought I did everything right.
Do flares happen without me causing them?
Maybe I'll understand all this better with time.
Thanks for your help and here's to pain-free days for everyone!

Wow...I know how you feel...yesterday I went to brunch with friends and was fine (after 2 immodium) and 2 cups of peppermint tea, things seemed OK....but 2 hours later....frequency.....I'm guessing too much liquid.
In your case....I bet the garlic was to blame....for me Aquafina is brutal, but if you normally do fine with it, the Deer Park brand may have pushed it further.
Maybe the stress from the holidays don't help either....we're all so pumped to have it all done by the holidays. I know for me it was a big releif to have al done and over with.
If I'm feeling icky again today....I'll be off to the lab to check for a UTI.....
I hope you feel better soon!
Hugs.

Garlic is a trigger for me. I do find with Aquafina Flavor Splash --- I haven't tried their water. If you're not feeling better by afternoon, you might want to be checked to be certain you don't have infection.

Hmm, we're all so individual. Garlic has never bothered my IC. Aquafina is one of my best waters, bothers me the least. The rolls, if they had preservatives, might have bothered me. When I eat something like that, I make sure it is a very small part of the meal & take Prelief (a calcium supplement that cuts the acid in food).
All that said, I was very good with the diet too, but I've been in & out of flare for several days. I'm betting it's finally relaxing after lots of stress that's done it for me. Fortunately, I made several physical therapy appointments for this week. That should help. And I have another week & a half of vacation, hopefully that will help too.
Hoping you feel better soon!

Maybe it was just the stress of Xmas - I totally freaked out - too much emotion in that day altogether - memories, etc. I just couldn't handle it.

Karen...Bottled water can be bottled from different places and have different ingredients added to it. You have to read labels very carefully. I drink bottled natural spring water. The label has to say that the bottle has been filled with only natural spring water...nothing else. The water companies can add all kinds of minerals to their water. So watch out for that. Also, if the bottle says drinking water, it can mean that it was filled from a local city water tap with everying that area adds to their tap water...such as chlorine.
We really have to learn to be label readers with everything we eat and drink. It is a hassle, but well worth the extra effort. :)

I don't have too many food triggers, some but I know what they are and how to avoid them or prevent the pain the follows if I fail and eat them. What I have found to be more difficult to control is having a full, or particularly an overfull belly. I feel like that puts much pressure on my bladder, even if all foods were "safe," overeating safe foods can cause me longer lasting pain and other symptoms than eating a trigger food. So...I try to snack healthy throughout the day and avoid big meals if possible. Has helped me tremendously. But...I did overeat xmas eve, foods that don't give me problems, but the pressure on my bladder put me into pain within half an hour. Just my experience. But I'm willing do deal with it at times, cuz the food was GOOD and I was HUNGRY :) Might make me hurt a little but figure it's not going to kill me and it's xmas :) Learning to live with IC I have learned not to deny myself or feel guilty for the mistakes I make occassionally...life's too short!

Yvette is right, there are so many other things that can cause a flare besides what we eat. Our bodies respond badly to the smallest amount of stress, and I don't know about your house, but as fun as I try to make the holidays around here...........there is still stress.........you are out of your routine.
If you are normally fine with Aquafina, then I don't see any reason to change it. Some people react to different waters. I am find with Aquafina, Ice Mountain, and Poland Springs, but FORGET Dasani! I was even desperate a few months ago in a long meeting for work and all they had was Dasani. I had to do a lot of talking, so I just sipped on it...tiny sips here and there.........and boom........within an hour I was flaring. We just got a new refrigerator and I searched to be sure we could get one with a good filter for the water. That has been the best thing we ever did!
Most of all, I hope you are beginning to feel better. Try to put your feet up and rest........watch some movies, or take a couple of cat naps this week. Hopefully that will be enough to get you through this rough patch.
Gentle Hugs...........

raw garlic is a huge trigger for me. I am fine if it is roasted or thoroughly cooked. I made the mistake once of using fresh ground up garlic in my salad dressing-yikes!
Hope you are feeling better!
