Two Specialists are working as a team. I thought I would mention what type of Doctor they are to give them the credibility I believe they deserve. It's going to be a very long road but both of these Doctors much like the Surgeon who did my Indiana Pouch are 100% dedicated to getting pain relief to the patient. I just have to trust and believe that they will eventually do something that will dimish the urethral area pain.
"When it comes to caring for chronic pelvic pain in women, Dr. Howard wrote the book. Literally. An internationally-recognized expert, Dr. Howard is senior editor of a definitive textbook on the subject. Pelvic Pain: Diagnosis and Management, published by Lippincott, Williams, and Wilkins. Yet in spite of that impressive accomplishment, when asked what he's most proud of in his career he replies that it's the faith his patients place in him.
Dr, Howard chose his specialty 20 years ago when he saw that too many women with pelvic pain were not getting the care–or respect–they deserved. Today, he's the doctor of last resort for many. His philosophy of care can be summed up in two words. Collaboration and persistence. He believes in his patients' own assessment of their symptoms and encourages them to be active in their own care. And, because chronic pain can take time to control, he makes a pact with patients–he tells them that if they "hang in" with him, he'll "hang in" with them. As one of the few pelvic pain sub-specialists of his caliber in the country, Dr. Howard routinely deals with extremely challenging cases. He's an outstanding surgeon with singular expertise in the use of the latest minimally-invasive, laparoscopic procedures for complicated situations.
Dr. Howard is Associate Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Director of the Division of Gynecologic Specialties, and Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology. He completed his medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1976 and his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Colorado. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and holds Certification in Advanced Operative Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy by the Accreditation Council for Gynecologic Endoscopy. He is active on the board of directors of the International Pelvic Pain Society where he has served as president and vice president and is on the Board of Trustees of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.
Dr. Howard is the author of numerous scientific papers on pelvic pain, endometriosis, and laparoscopic surgery and has received numerous honors and awards. He also continues to be an active researcher."
He has written books on the very things that could be going wrong with my nerves.
He is working as a team with Dr. Westesson who is the Professor of Radiology and the Director, Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology. He is also a Dentist and has a great background in Psychology and has excellent bedside manner. The best I've seen besides my surgeon in NYC.
So I found my Neurologist by way of default finally.
With the three of us together I am hoping for a reduction in pain over the next year. That is our goal.
This gives me some hope for the future and a reason to keep fighting. Knowing that there are two doctors that are going to fight with me is half the battle. I just hope they honor thier side of the committment. I've had so many Doctors tell me that they would take this road with me but they all back out because it's too complicated for them.
I hope this works out somehow so I can live again.
