I was given Minocyclyn by my dermotologist for really bad acne. He also gave me Benzoil Peroxidde 5.5%. I've had the antibiotic for a week or two and havn't taken any becuase I am afraid it will cause a flare.

I took Levaquin for a possible UTI a few weeks back and not only did that make my bladder feel better but it cleared up my face 100%. I'm just worried about a new antibiotic that I have never heard of before.

Any suggestions? I see my Uro. today, I think I am going to run it by him before taking anything.

Note: The dose= 2x a day for the first week, then once a day following unless acne gets worse...then 2 pills. I am to take them until Feb. (my next appointment).

Overall antibiotics are usually IC friendly and if anything usually help IC but some are not as nice as others often do to additives or colorants. If it bothers anything it often bothers you in some digestive way (stomach, bowels, and such) which can often end up bothering your bladder. There may be ways to minimize or avoid that. One other thing is that when on an antibiotic you can avoid a flare if you take a probiotic with it.
Unfortunatly often the only way to know if something will bother you is to try it. In this case since it is not for an infection perhaps you can start with one dose and wait a few days to see how it affects you. I would ask your doctor first but since you are concerned that may be a way to minimize any possible flare that may occur.
http://ic-network.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21385 antibiotics poll This is not an antibiotic I know either so I am curious to find out how it goes.
Class: Antibiotic (Tetracycline) It is sold under the brand names Sumycin®;, Tetracyn®; and Panmycin®, among others
Before taking tetracycline,

tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to tetracycline, minocycline, doxycycline, sulfites, or any other medications.
tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take, especially antacids, anticoagulants ('blood thinners') such as warfarin (Coumadin), and penicillin. Tetracycline may decrease the effectiveness of some oral contraceptives; another method of birth control should be used while taking this drug.
be aware that antacids, calcium supplements, iron products, and laxatives containing magnesium interfere with tetracycline, making it less effective. Take tetracycline 1 hour before or 2 hours after antacids (including sodium bicarbonate), calcium supplements, and laxatives containing magnesium. Take tetracycline 2 hours before or 3 hours after iron preparations and vitamin products that contain iron.
tell your doctor if you have or have ever had diabetes, allergies, asthma, hay fever, hives, or kidney or liver disease.
tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking tetracycline, call your doctor immediately. Tetracycline can harm the fetus.
if you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking tetracycline.
plan to avoid unnecessary or prolonged exposure to sunlight and to wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Tetracycline may make your skin sensitive to sunlight.
you should know that when tetracycline is used during pregnancy or in babies or children up to age 8, it can cause the teeth to become permanently stained. Tetracycline should not be used in children under age 8 unless your doctor decides it is needed.

Good luck I hope it helps you!

Sorry I don't mean to digress from the topic but I noticed you have tachydardia. Do they know what causes that? Usually my resting heart rate is above 100 beats per minute but in my case that is from Lyme disease.

I hope the minocyclin helps you. Good luck keep us posted.

Hi,
I tried this for my acne and it made my bladder flare badly. The first day I was ok but by the 2nd and 3rd days it was obvious it was causing my bladder to flare. Plus I've been reading bad things about taking antibotics for acne. It screws up your bowels...yeast infections....yellow teeth...I would never try oral antibotics for acne again...in my opinion its not worth the health risks.

Right now im taking benzamycin and I'm thinking of stopping that too. I've been having reoccuring yeast infections and I wonder if that is a factor. I read the detailed prescribing info and all they did to test if its systematically absorbed by the body is test 16 people. 16 people! They said the erothrymicin was not detectable in the blood of all but one of these people. Um so thats 1 out of every 16 thats pretty damn high. God I hate these drug companies the crap they get away with! How can they only test 16 people for that? So I dunno if enough erothrymicin is being absorbed to cause me problems or what. Sorry for the long rant I'm angry. lol But the main point is be careful what you put in or on your body.

Thanks for the feedback talksick. I took one dose (2 pills) and it made my bladder...itch...would be the best word to describe it. I don't think I am going to continue to take it. That's what I am going to tell my derm. next time I see him. He's a bit of a hard @$$. Wanted to put me on Welbutrin becuse he thought I pick at my face (which I do not). Anyway. If he tells me to suck it up and take it. I'll tell him to stick it and then I will change doctors (though I doubt it will come to that). Anyway, sorry for my mini-rant/vent.

Oh, and talksick, have you ever tried Benzoclyn (sp?) for acne? It's topical and it works GREAT. I used to use it, now I use 5.5% NeoBenz.
