Do you go to Doc's before you can self cath?Tonight was my third time.I cleaned myself with the brown stuff and then put the lidicain on.Weds I told the nurse that I wanted to mix the meds.Then on Friday or Weds I'm going to try to self cath.

I would like to know how long you all hold it?I have a hard time peeing after, I mean long after.I push it out cause it doesn't seem right to have it in too long.I also heard that your not suppose to push.

And does it (pee) burn coming out?

It's been helping the next day after I go and have it done.
I am just working with my regular doctor.It's the blind leading the blind.

I learned to cath myself a lot of years ago. My uro's nurse taught me in one lesson.

I knew how to cath because I'm a nurse, but the uro's nurse did show me what amounts of the meds to mix together.

When I cath with the lidocaine/heparin/sodium bicarb I tend to hold it too long because everything gets so numb, I actually forget I have a bladder for a while. It's BLISS! When I finally remember to go, hours later, it doesnt burn at all, just makes my bladder cramp because I forgot and let it get too full. The lidocaine numbs my urethra too....plus, I ALWAYS take 2 pyridium tablets about an hour before cathing.
