I just started Elmiron about a month ago. I woke last Saturday with my toe so swollen I couldn't walk on it. It hurt so bad on Sunday I went to Emergancy and they doc there wondered if it could be Gout. He perscribed some antiinflamitorys, the pain has been bareable but the swelling still hasn't gone away(over a week age now). Gout is a form of arthritis and it is causes by a build up of uric acid in the blood which I find interesting because Uric acid is found in urine of course. Anyone have any thoughts about this? Thanks

Wow, I wish I had some real answers/ideas for you - ouch! Have you seen your regular doctor about it to see where it might have come from???

I called last week to make an appointment because it wasn't going away and I will be going to see him on Wednesday. It always takes over a week to get into my family doctor. (and they say the canadain health care system is totally great) I just don't fit the description to actually even get Gout, heavy drinkers, and older men or women with menapause. Since I just started Elmiron I thought maybe that is it, but maybe not.

Well, at least glad to hear you have an appt, geesh it is a mystery! Hopefully your doc can tell you if it's med related etc. I hope you get to the bottom of it! :)

I take Elmiron and check my blood levels about every three months and I have not noticed any difference in uric acid levels or liver function tests. I dont think this is related.
