Hi,
I am new here and was recently diagnosed with IC and endometriosis. I was wondering if anyone gets abdominal pain with their IC.
Thanks,
Nancy

Nancypt,
Yes, when I get a really bad flare I do get abdominal pain, but,I also suffer from IBS and motility problems so some times they flare up all at once. It would be a wise idea to mention it to your Doctor to make sure there is nothing else going on .

I have both IC and endo. I was diagnoised with the endo first and then just the IC about a month and a half ago. I have a lot of pelvic pain, I don't think that I woujld say that it's abdominal. My main problem at this time is figuring out what the pain is. There are times that my bladder actually burns some but most of the time the pain is more what I would think is endo but my gyn seems to think that some of my pain might be IC but how in the world do you tell the difference is beyond me.

Pain in the lower abdomen is a symptom of IC. The pain I experience with a flare is similar to menstrual cramps, but much more severe.

Christine,
I am like you- don't know how to figure out where the pain is comimg from. My primary dr said there shouldn't be any endo pain now since it was removed during my lap at the end of Sept. That is what I was thinking too. I have had GI problems with all neg test results except for sludge in my gallbladder. I remember my uro saying bladder pain can be referred to the right upper quadrant where the gallbladder is.

Yes, I have it all through my stomach and when the pain is really bad up to my ribs. had all kinds of test done including a colonoscopy which found nothing. I've it from the start of the IC and I do think it is related to it. More the bladder pain the worse the stomach pain is.

Acupuncture (if done the right way)and Chinese herbs have just about eliminated my pelvic pain but just be sure the dr. is certified and really into Chinese medicine (and skillfull) and not just doing it as an adjunct to other "alternative" treatments.

Hi--
I have had endo and IC as well. I was diagnosed with endo in 1998 and IC in 2002. I am sure the IC was present during the quest for the endo diagnosis, however no one bothered to evaluate my bladder at all. I had a hysterectomy in 2002 and when the pain was not relieved post op I got sent to a uro and well...the IC saga begain. I can say my IC pain is lower back and suprapubic(over my bladder) and feels like Freddie Kruger is in their twisting my bladder and urethra and trying to force it out of my body. My endo pain caused severe, sharp crampy pain all over my pelvic region. Both caused issues with pain during intercourse.

WHen I first started having symptoms I would describe it as lower abdominal pain. When I found out about IC I realized the pain was originating in my bladder. I used to get sharp stabbing pains, but had hunner's ulcers removed during hydro and haven't had that type of pain since. Mostly burning bladder and achey back now.

When i first went to my urologist he was skeptical that i had IC considering that i am only 18. But he listened to what i had to say aobut my symptoms and scheduled a hydro and biopsy the next week. Although i got put on Elmiron and a couple other meds, i wasn't officially diagnosed with IC until the pathology report came back yesterday. Before i was put on medication i experienced severe abdominal pain which felt like horrible period cramps. Maybe it won't last forever, but at this time i have only been on meds for two weeks and i feel remarkably better. The cramps will stop with time, just follow the diet! I reccomend no chocolate or soda. Good luck and God Bless.
