So have gone back on elavil 25mg after being in a flare for 4 months. Used to take it before for headaches.
The best thing about it is for the first time in months, some days I sleep straight away and without needing heating pad all through the night! After spending so long tossing and turning all night till 3am onwards and with heating pad between legs to stop that urge feeling when there's nothing in there!

Have noticed a few hours without the constant urge so hoping it is kicking in! Far from flare free but even just out of this flare would be a miracle for me! I find my evenings are much better on it as I take it 8pm but still well sleepy in the mornings but it is getting better.

Just needed some encouragement or stories from others on it?? How long did it take you to see effects? Been on it 10 days I think now...

Yes, lots of us! It helps me most with frequency and some for bladder pain and vulvodynia symptoms. I only take 10mg, sometimes up the dose to 20 mg if in a flare, and yeah, it definitely helps me sleep. I take it around dinnertime to prevent the morning groggies, since I have to get up for work at 6 am. I only have to take it as needed now...it starts working within a couple of days for me. Positive side note: no weight gain for me. Best wishes.

I've been taking 25mg since September. I think its really helped a lot with the frequency and urgency, as well as it keeps me calmer, started seeing results rather quickly, maybe 2-3wks. I'm going to see if uro will up to 50mg so that I can feel even better. I think that Elavil helps for a lot of us. Good Luck!!

When I first started Elavil it was to help with my headaches and vulvadynia, I didnt even know about IC then, this was about 4 years ago, well I took it for 3 and 1/2 years and decided to quit taking it, Well that within 6 months of being off of it I had a major vulvadynia flare and thats when all my IC symptoms started, I wish now I would have never stopped taking it. Well when I was dg with IC, I begged dr to put me back on Elavil , He said that was a good idea, because thats one of the meds they use to help with IC pain..I take 25mg at night and I will not be stopping it again, it has helped me so much!!!:smile tee

It's the only thing that's helped me. I started at 10 mg and now take 40 mg. It doesn't take away the irritation totally, but it brings it down to a dull roar. I've been on it for over a year now and will stay on it forever. My last uro said it has the highest success rate of any IC drug. The only side effect it has on me is weight gain, which sucks, but to me is worth the decrease in discomfort.

I went back on 5 days ago after a major flare up. I tried it before around 6 months ago but only stayed on it two weeks. I am going to give it longer this time. I have noticed a better result this time around. I know one thing it sure helps me sleep better! I report back here after my month is up and let everyone know how it's going. Happy Holidays!

I am on 75 mg. of Elavil. I live in Aurora IL. I am in San Diego right now, and I FORGOT MY ELAVIL. Is there ANYONE that lives close by that can loan me a pill or two until I get my doctor tomorrow, or is there anyone that has advise on whether it will even matter? Elavil has been my life line. Thanks. Of course it is Christmas....so I cannot get through to a pharmacy or doctor.

Elavil is one of the best drugs for nerve pain of any origin. They even give it for Shingles.
If you need Elavil and didnt bring it with you, just go to any pharmacy and tell them where your RX is and they will call the pharmacy and give you either a refill or a few pills to tide you over. If it happens to be Walgreens you are in business as it is in the computer all over the USA>
