Does anyone think that the SSRI drugs are the cuase of their IC problems? I have taken SSRIs - most of them - over the past 18 years and then started having problems with IC. When I stopped taking the SSRIs, after 2-3 weeks my IC went away.

I see that 1 - 2 % of the population get bladder/urinary problems on these drugs (dsyuria, etc). All the doctors push the SSRIs for the depression, anxeity and pain caused by IC, but none of them consider that the SSRIs could be the problems in the first place.

Is it possible that long term use of these drugs actually causes this condition, which makes us take additional drugs to treat this new condition?

I find doctors very frustrating.

When I was put on Elavil years ago for Vulvadynia, it helped me out alot, didnt have a vulvadynia flare again, but after being on elavil for 2 years I decided to go off of it, when I did thats when I had another flare and all my IC symptoms started, so I dont think elavil caused it, I think it had been preventing it..

I had never taken an antidepressant when I developed IC.

I had IC and eventually started SSRI's for chronic pain and depression. So for me.... the IC came long before I ever started anti-depressants.

I've had IC way before the doctors put me an anti-depressant.

Yep, me too. I'm only on antidepressents because of the IC.

My mother never took an antidepressant & she has IC, same with my grandmother. I wondered about this myself though, since I had taken several different antidepressants & had tried 2 different ones (1 day on each & said "never again") the summer I got sick.

I'm sorry if I upset anyone. I guess I have just realized that certain ADs make my IC flare up.

Sometimes I feel so desperate to pin this awful condition on something. I feel like if I knew what caused it I could deal with it better. I guess that's where the diet comes in.

I have printed off the diet, yet again, and noticed some of the things that are making me sore as well.

I hate having IC. I wish there was some way of making it go away.

You didn't offend or upset anyone. We're all trying to pin point what causes this disease. The only way we'll ever find out is if we keep running ideas past eachother:)
