Hi,
I am new to the site... I am 21 (next week!), married and have a daughter.
Well I finally saw a urologist after years of letting this go and controlling the flares with pyridium... well it is getting to the point where I am taking pyridium all the time so from the advice of my mom who has IC I went... of course he wants me to have a cystoscopy and possibly stretch out my urethra... I am putting it off until Feb 4th because i am really nervous. They are doing it in a hospital so i figure the only good thing about that is if i need to i can stay (they usually do it in the facility but i have a latex allergy). They comforted me by telling me they will give me pain medicine which is an issue for me because I have fibromyalgia and have a very high tolerance to pain medicine since I have had it since i was 15....
Also I know it helps some people and not others but can you give me any tips on how to make the process go better... stuff I should have at home?? Did any of you end up staying over night at the hospital?
Thanks so much!

I always stay overnight in the hospital after a hydrodistention. My uro feels it's good for me to have the rest and pain control for those hours before I come home.

Sending encouraging hugs,
Donna

If I HAD to do it over again I would stay in the hospital overnight with catheter and foley, or be sent home with catheter and leg bag, to give the bladder a rest and not have to deal with the painful peeing, also. Eat light the day before, foods that are easily digestable. Any sign of swollen belly and retention, call dr or go to ER ASAP. I also have sensitivity to latex and cannot tolerate (awake) an adult size catheter, so you could make plans in advance for a nonlatex pediatric size cathter, if you decide to stay overnight or or go home cathed, make sure they know to order you the smaller one. For me, it was much more tolerable however, it took the hospital a couple days to order and receive it and that could have been avoided if I had made plans in advance. BEst wishes. Hope it goes well for you. Keep us updated.

I guess I will have an overnight bag ready just in case and see how it goes... if i am in that much pain i will just tell them i want to stay... i have other health problems too so i dont think it will be that much of an issue.

Thanks for the replies it is helping me feel better! :woohoo:

Glad we were able to ease your fears a little. I wish I had known what to expect and ask for when I had mine. Donna is probably the most experienced one around here with hyrdros, so I second her on the overnight stay, especially if urinating is difficult and extremely painful. Best wishes.

i definitly will be talking to him about possibly staying overnight with a cath. any other things i should consider thinking about or having to make it go as smoothly as possible? I am so glad i found this website!! One other question anyone who takes pyridium plus can you take zoloft with it? i read online that it can have a interaction with antidepressents? but i havent gotten around to calling the pharmecy yet and i just havent taken the plus just the regular pyridium.

also how do i make my icon a picture of me :)

FOr an overnight stay
Chapstick
Hand/body lotion
mints and or gum
antibacterial hand wipes or baby wipes
air freshener
cell phone
your own pillow and blanky and warm socks

I took pyridium round the clock for quite a while after my hydro, but have never taken pyridium plus

I wasn't on any antidepressants at the time, but do take Prozac now and an occasional pyridium without problems. Good idea to check with your pharmacist...

don't know how to post pictures, but i think IHURTTOO does.

If you want a copy of your bladder photos, be sure to remind remind remind the nurses and dr and whoever else will be present during the procedure, otherwise they will most likely make only one copy for your file.

Thank you she is my world! I had her when I was 19 but she was a blessing! the father and I just married in September and couldnt be happier! I guess we were one of the lucky ones were it worked out... you know i guess the odds were againts us with me being 19 and him being 21 at the time of her birth and not married but we are proud home owners now and life is good! I thank God all the time for being so blessed... but I pray my health gets better ASAP! between the Fibromyalgia and IC its hard.

p.s I hope my siggy isnt to much.. if I need to make it down to just one picture let me know but i wont add anymore... these are just my favorite... they pretty much describe me :) I hope to soon be a regular! I posted on AOL's august 2005 babies board and was a regular over there :)
