Hi everyone. My name is Helen and I currently live in England, in Feb next year I am headed for Australia on a 12 month working holiday visa. Im going to be living in Melbourne for at least 6 months. I was diagnosed with IC just over 2 years ago at the age of 21. I currently take 3 medications-Cimetidine, atarax and detruisitol and my main question is whether I will be able to get these meds if I go to a doctors in Australia. I am so excited about travelling, but im also worried about my bladder.
Any help appreciated

Hi Helsey,

My name is Lorena and I live in Melbourne. I found out in oct this year I had IC.

I am not too sure about the medications, sometimes what we have in Australia is called different to what you take but are the same meds..

You can get your doctor or uro to check to see if we have them in Australia.

good luck with your trip. If you are staying in Melb for six months bring some warm gear.

Take care :)

Hi and welcome Helen
as Lorena said, many meds go by diff names here but your doc should be able to tell you if they are available here and if not, get you special orders of them so you bring enough with you. Please make your travel agent makes sure everywhere you stop on the way will allow you to carry the meds and have them all in their labelled bottles with your doctors script and a letter from him explaining what the meds are for and that they are prescribed for you
You should not have any problems with them here if you have all that but i know many countries have very strict rules about medications and i am sure you already know this but i would rather bore you than see you get into trouble for meds you need.
I live in Syd, should you spend time here, i would be happy to point you in the right direction of caring doctors should you need one
what an exciting trip you have planned, i hope it is wonderful for you

If you go to http://www.ic-network.org/glossary/ you may find your medications there.

Hi Hels
Welcome!!!
Where abouts do you live in England? I live in East yorkshire? Well my autie and unlce live in America and have done for 8 years. I have just had a work with her because her best friend has IC and she is on Amytriptaline and Cymbalta 60mg. To be honest I have never heard of the medication you are taking at current but it may be giving a different brand name in Australia anyway. She has never had any problems getting medication for her IC and has tried many different medications which I have tried also so I am pretty sure that what ever medication they have in England will be available in australia.

Good luck
kate
