I have mentioned this before on this site that my pharmacy gave me the wrong meds last month. Instead of Seconal, my pharmacy gave me Seroquel. I was having a problem getting one of my meds filled at that pharmacy, so my husband took my actual prescription from ***** and took it to another pharmacy that could get my B&O supp in faster than 2 weeks. The pharmacist noticed that I was given Seroquel instead of Seconal. I am taking the Seconal to help with my sleep since nothing else is working for very long. When I saw my doctor last week, he couldn't believe that I actually functioned for the entire month (I had 2 pills left) and worked and all. He knows that I have a high tolerance to meds, but the mgs that I was given were definitely not at the beginning level for the Seroquel which is mainly used for mental disorders. My brother was bi-polar before he passed away and his meds were as high as mine and he had been on them for years. I know that God was watching over me. I felt a disconnected at times and fell a couple of times, but sometimes since I don't get my sleep I get clumsy, so I didn't think much about the clumsiness. I also had a huge headache right above my right ear which was I couldn't really explain. My eyes kept having little ticks. I was also having a problem waking up during the night and would be in so much pain all over like I had been hit by a truck. My doctor told me that I definitely should not have been driving on those meds. I am so thankful that I wasn't in an accident and hurt someone. He suggested that I change pharmacys, which I did. The former pharmacy has called me several times to check on me and told me that they would give me my money back for the wrong med.

My new pharmacist's wife has had IC for along time, that is really what caught his attention about the wrong med since all my other meds were pain meds and lidocaine, etc., so it is nice to actually go to him now and he explains every med to me even if I have been on them a long time.

Thats so scary! I'm glad it all worked out ok for you! I had a similar experience, well, one where I dealt with a sloppy pharmacist. I got about 10 rx's filled, literally, one day a few months ago. I got home and inside one of my bags was a bottle of Zoloft, with another patient's name on it!! I dont take Zoloft!!

I called them and told them their mistake. They wanted me to come back up there to bring the bottle back to them, and I refused. I made the pharmacy tech come to MY house and gave them to him, and the next day I placed a complaint against the store. I got coupons for 25% off my rx's, but I was so mad at them I changed to another CHAIN, not just another store, but a whole nother chain....I was mad, can ya tell?

It's a human thing, but in the case of medications its unforgiveable...If I'd given someone the wrong med in the hospital I'd be investigated for competency, so you better believe I expect the same from my pharmacy!

I took the empty bottle back to Walgreens last Friday night. The person that the pharmacy (Rite-Aid) talked to at Walgreens and that had called and checked on me 3 times was out of vacation for the next 2 weeks. When I told the tech at Walgreens that I had talked to Sandra, they were familiar with the situation, but I would need my receipt to get my money back. I definitely was ready to "launch" into a fit, but decided to be nice. I explained to the tech that I don't keep my receipts for my meds since I normally don't have a need to return or exchange them. I did have the bottle and the flyer that goes with the meds. They called their management and then went ahead and gave me my money. There were several people in line and I some of them heard my situation about them giving me the wrong meds. I work in risk management, and definitely know that I could have made it a big deal, but since I am fine (In my head anyway), I just wanted my money back. After that transaction the tech noticed that my valium was ready to be filled and I explained to her that I was in the process of moving all my prescriptions and I didn't want her to fill it since I had already dropped it off at Rite-Aid. My new pharmacist is so nice. He greets me and says my name and asks how my husband is doing everytime I go into the store now. He is such a nice guy. It is also nice to know that his wife has IC so I feel very comfortable asking him questions.
