Hi guys,
I'm new to this site, stumbling upon it recently while researching this condition..I was diagnosed in May with IC and have been on Ditropan XL 5 mg till Aug, then 10 mg since, plus Pyridium on occasion to assist when I'm in flare up, as well as the beloved IC diet (thank god for that!!)
I am really nervous b/c my uro has scheduled me for a cysto-hydro and I have heard so many various accounts from people - I know it will be different for every person depending on the severity etc. however, I am told by them that it will be better for me and I will see results and feel better - one of my co workers also has IC and she said flat out to have the hydro done - a former co worker has said differently and that she was out of commission for 2 weeks in pain from it..
I can't afford to find out the hard way that I will be out of work for any length of time, we can't swing that financially - I guess I'm really not sure what to believe at this point..Any information would be appreciated, as this is seemingly a very common condition and procedure(s)..

I have had 40 hydrodistentions since I was diagnosed back in 1975. When I was working, I would schedule for a Tuesday or Wednesday and go back to work the following Monday. That said, you need to know that some have reported here that it took several weeks to recover. There's no way of knowing how your body will respond.
Warm welcoming hugs,
Donna

Thanks Donna :)
my morning began with little sleep for the first time in months (mine isn't as severe as some people I've seen) - and tears at the frustration of lost sleep and having to call in sick to work again..
mine is scheduled for a Wednesday, I'm off the next day, and hopefully won't have to take off Friday too but we'll see how it goes..
so glad to have a forum to hear others and know I'm not alone!

My cysto-hyro was no problem. I was asleep during it, and they sent me home with pain relief and pyridiem. A little uncomfortable that day to urinate, but by the next day felt pretty good. I went to work two days after, with no problems. Don't worry, it will be fine.

I have had a handful (about 8) and I also work full time. I usually schedule them on a Thursday, this way I have the rest of the weekend off. Usually have no problems at all. Go back to work on Monday. But we are all different as Donna has said. I would go for it. It might give you some relief for a few months. I know it does for me. (gives me anywhere from 5-7 months--after that I just call the doctors and we do another one). Good luck with whatever you choose to do.)

Unfortunatley I have to say I was out of office for three weeks, although I have only a very mild IC....I needed several weeks to recover.. As everybody says: we are all different..
Good luck for you :)

I've been having the hydro/cysto done every 6 months for over 8 yrs. Sometimes I don't recoup as fast as other times. I guess it depends on how bad my flare up was before the surgery. I always stay overnight because I live out of town and have to drive back and forth for the procedure. This year they've done something different. They put in a foley and then flush my bladder for 10 hrs... If they put on to much pressure then I tell them to tone it down...

This is me with my Service Dog, Shadow - He became a Certified Mobility Assistant Service Dog in October. I had the pleasure of training him and it took two years... The only problem I don't like about staying overnight is that he has to stay home with family and he doesn't like being without me...

Thank you all for your stories - I've been reading everything I can on here to find out the varying degrees of everyone's trials...I guess I am extremely fortunate in that all I've been taking is 10mg Ditropan XL 1x/day and pyridium only as need be (usually 1x/month)...My husband and I have been discussing all of this in great detail and for the time being, we are going to forego the surgery as the diet and meds I'm on help me the vast majority of the time, I really only get flare ups during my cycle or when I eat something I shouldn't (which is rare!)...
We wish to beging TTC in 2007 and are going to look into a Naturopath for now to see what options we have there if any (we have coverage for it on our health plan - we live in Canada)...
I will for sure keep posting and reading up on this as it is a great support group on here for everyone...
Unfortunatley for me I was out of work for a bout 6weeks and it took me a long time to recover.
i do have sever IC and after the procedure this was worse and my vulvodyina was far worse too!
I wouldnt let this put you off though as everyone is different.
i must admit though, it has put me off for life as I will always fear it making me worse. Even my urol said we had better not risk it.
I am sure you will be fine though, so good luck and stay positive

I had mine done on Nov 2nd, and im still in pain from it, but I had complications. My bladder was extended to much and it ruputured, but the uro said this was very rare, but just wanted to let you know it could happen.
Rhonda
You poor thing I cant believe it. is that a common mistake made?
i was in a lot of pain but didnt have any complications, just reacted very badly to the procedure.
It didnt do me any good in the slightest to be honest.
Are you having it done again?
