I just wrote the check for dance costumes for the recital in May of 2007. This really hurts this close to Christmas

2 ballet outfits, 2 jazz costumes, 2 tap costumes, 2 grand finale costumes, and 1 pointe outfit........... UGH i hate to even admit to this total. Please don't report me to mommiesrnuts.com

I still have pointe shoes to buy next week and that's another $100. So glad hubby doesn't look at the accounting.

$632.22 just for the outfits.

I know what you mean. Extra curricular activities for the kids can be so expensive. My daughter is 8 and she has enjoyed many activities we finally had to ask her which one was important. She chose music because she loves it. Instruments are expensive, she is getting a violin for christmas this year. She also wants to learn a wind instrument, but we are going to wait until grade 5 because that is when she can join the band at school.
My two boys are almost old enough to get involved in an extra curricular activity probably hockey, another expensive sport.

There are distinct advantages to being my age! My children are all adults now and I don't have to worry about how I'll pay for their activities. When I think back, I don't know how we managed!

My 8 yr old has been in dance since she was 2 and always ended up with the tap, jazz, and ballet outfits. This was the first year I couldnt send her it broke my heart, but im a single parent....Look at it this way,you can recycle into halloween costumes or for dress up. What little girl could resist?

I know it is all worth it in the end, it just stinks right at Christmas to have to shuck out that much money. But when I see them up there dancing at the recital it is all worth it and I forget all about the money.

Yikes! Why do they make you pay so early!!??? My checkbook is in cardiac arrest too, but from spending on Christmas, and I've been shopping, mostly online, since October!!! It IS a good thing your hubby doesn't look at the finances, cuz if that were me, Tom would be in cardiac arrest! LOL

YIKES!!! Their is no way we could afford any of that, but I say if you can do it. They only have one childhood so do the very best you can to give them the best. That is what we do we do the very best we can with what we have.

If it wasn't for the school being so helpful to all the parents who has children either in cheer leading, football, baseball my babies wouldn't get to do any of it.
the school understand so they have fund raiser to help all the parents. Thank God!!

My son took his last exam as Mississippi State on Tuesday. He still has student teaching next semester, but that won't be near the expense of the last 4 years of college. I am so excited to have 1 son almost on his on. He is getting married in May and the other is in his 2nd year of college. When my kids started kindergarten, I remember everyone saying how great it was going to be since they were out of daycare and we no longer had that expense. That is when the real expense started. Baseball, soccer, basketball, golf...you name it. My mom always told me that when my brother and I were kids, we just went outside and played. She wanted to know why we were always having to pay for them to play on teams. Things change...don't they!

Hope everyone is having a great evening.

IT isn't just as simple as freeze tag and kick ball anymore is it. I took dance when I was little and did a competition twirl/dance team, and I don't think every year I did it did my mom spend this kinda money.

Wow, I can't believe you pay that kind of money for only two kids. How many dance classes do they each take? If I did that, my 4 kids would break me.

If it's worth it to you, I guess that is all that matters. :)

both daughters take tap, jazz, & Ballet and the oldest take pointe ballet as well. I took them to raise and that's what I am doing. This is year 12 of doing this and I wouldn't change a dollar of it.

You wont get any :tsk: from me! I just spent $100 on making a Grinch suit! If my husband knew what that thing cost, he'd commit me to the Psych ward for sure! (Not only because he'd think I was crazy, but also, so I couldnt write any more checks for a few days! :biglaugh:)

But, I have to say, I would be in MUCH deeper debt if I had a daughter instead of a son! I melt when I see all those dresses! Right now, it is the little red Santa dresses with the fur trim that get me, along with all the other velvet Christmas dresses. Then of course, at Easter, those get to me too! (I cant even go near those depts then, since I become a blubbering idiot at the sight of those!)

But, I wouldnt trade Collin for 10 girls! He brings me the most joy in my life!

Anyway, I can definately understand the spending thing! I know I wouldve spent it too! They are lucky that they have a Mom who loves it as much as they do! Hugs, Amy
