Well im doing botox for my pelvic muscles. Doctor Moldwin is going to perform it. I had a nerve block done a month ago (pelvic muscles) and right after the procedure i ran to the car went to olive garden then to target lol. Thats how wonderful i felt. Im from buffalo,ny so we have to fly to NYC but its worth it. Hes an excellent doctor. So he thought the botox would do wonders for me. So im excited about it. Its been 2 years and nothing has helped so im hopeful this will finally be the answer. I do not have an appointment set up yet. We were waiting to see if the insurance company would cover but nobody from the insurance is being helpful on how we get that to happen. So were going to set it up and pay. I cant wait and ill fill you all in when i get more info. If anyone could give me info. on it or the possible side affects that would be great. I will also post this in the botox section. I just usually post here so i thought i would. Thanks so much!

I've had botox done twice but in the bladder not the pelvic muscles. I was told it was too risky to do it there. I have severe IC and I've tried it all. I just tried Cyclosporine A and it worked wonders but it made me so sick in other ways.
I really loved botox but it didn't help with my pain. It did help my freq/urg but not pain. Most insurance companies won't pay for it cause it's experiemental. They will pay for the actually surgery but not the botox itself. I had my dr order it from the manfact. that way I only paid $450 for it. If you get it from the hospital where you have it done they will charge you over $1800 for it. So have your dr order it to his office.
Now this is for the bladder so I'm not sure about the pelvic muscles. My dr coded it as a cysto with injections so the insurance paid for it. I'm not sure if your dr can do something similar for your situation. Ask him if he can code it differently so the insurance can pay for it. I've dealt with insuance companies for many treatments and there is always a way to get them to pay for it. It's just how your dr codes the procedure. Good luck. hope this helps. I wanted it done there too but never found a dr who thought it was safe for me.Take care

My name is laura too! Funny. Good luck to you!! I had a similar botox procedure done - I had injections in my bladder & my pelvic floor muscles. I think it is helping with the pain. The only side effect I had was that a few days after the injections it was sort of hard for me to actually go to the bathroom. I just really had to concentrate & then it was fine, though. I h ad the injections about a month ago & now I am feeling pretty good. Hope it goes well for you!! GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks for all the replies! Im still waiting for the doctor to call so. But i thank everyone for the information. As soon as i get word on when it will be i will let you know. I'll also keep everyone updated as well. I think im the youngest one to get this done. So like my mom said "they should give us the botox for free then". Well thanks again! And i will keep you alll in my prayers!

I had it done in the pelvic muscles at the mayo clinic about three years ago. I thought they were putting it in the bladder so when I came out of surgery and was bleeding vaginally I was shocked. That's when the doc said she put it in the pelvic muscles. I may have had a little relief from it. About a year later my local doc did it in the bladder. That definitely did not help. We are all different so I am hoping this will help you. -Vicki

I hope it works. With all the money and everything it would just be horrible if it didnt. Im very hopeful about this and all the doctors are too so that makes me feel a lot better. This is kind of the last step for me. My bladder is not too much of an issue anymore. Yes i have the ocassional burning. Actually i always burn but its less noticable. So now it seems more of a pelvic problem so my goodness i hope this works!!! I want to get back to school and go back to a normal life. I miss my friends and everything!!! Im excited about this but i also dont want to get myself that excited. It could end up not working which emotionally would be devastating to me and most likely my family so i need to also prepare myself for that too. I finally have gotten over the griveing process of having IC. I started counseling a few months back and now im accepting this. Its a huge step and it really makes you feel so good. SO i pray every night hoping that this will all just go away someday (the pain) cuz i know the IC itself wont. But im praying for everyone on this site. You have been a huge support for me throughout everything!! Thank u all again and also thank you for the replies!

Laura, I had it done in Miami, FL. I was in a 3 year trail study with doctor in Miami. He put the injection inside the bladder and it worked for me. It helped with my uerceny & frecercy. Know I have to pay for my botox. I got with the botox advantage program and they got with my insurance. My insurance is paying for my botox and I pay $50 co-pay. They are still looking for more patients for the 3 year trail study in Miami. Deborah Bush:hi:

I finally got an appointment for the 9th of january. And for some reason the hospital WILL NOT bill the insurance company because they know they wont cover it but again ive heard that they do. So we have to buy the botox ourselves at the pharmacy for how ever much plus take it on an airplane without breaking it! then we have to pay 900 dollars for the doctor to do it. What the heck?? This is so confusing. Ive heard of ppl getting the insurance to pay for this. BUt we need to have the money in hand to them. SO i dont know. Any help would be greatly accepted as to how to get this covered. Aghhhhh im so upset. Anyways ill keep you posted. Thanks!

my dr is going to do it for me on Jan 4th. she is doing it as a "surgical procedure". Her office is in the hospital so I guess she will use some sedation. that's probably how she gets the ins to pay for it. I'm a little scared to have to have it done. I'm in a flare now and in so much pain. I once had trigger point injections into the pelvic floor muscles and I was in agony afterwards. I hope the Botox won't be as painful although I suspect with me.....I'll probably have soreness. My muscles are really tight. i couldn't even do PT because it hurt too much.
I still may chicken out.:(
Please let us know how you make out with dr Moldwin

I am finally getting over ths bladder flare that I had from drinking Fennel Tea that I thought was IC safe. I now have a damn virus.......again....which is going from tummy to my head. So with all that has been going on and the holiday I am thinking I may hold off on the Botox. I just really feel that I will flare with pain from the injection and I am not ready to handle it emotionally and physically. I am getting my script of ativan suppositories by mail soon and will try using them for the PFD for a while and see how it goes.
Keep us posted on how you are feeling and how it goes with dr moldwin.
happy holiday:smile tee

Four days and counting......Im nervous and scared and excited. Im hoping it works but im also scared it wont. Moldwin decided he would no longer take HMO's. Why would he do such a thing??? How are we as middle class supposed to see the only urologist that helps and supposed to pay for him!?! Im so angry and i will mention something to him. But my birthday is the 14th and im hoping for an early present. Im just so excited but i dont want to let myself down in the end if it doesnt work. Wish me good luck and please pray. I will fill everyone in when i get back for nyc tuesday night. Yep all of this in one day. Leave at 5am come home at 6pm! Thanks so much!

Hi Laura,
2 days to go!!!! Good luck with everything. I hope it affords you the relief that you need. I've been using Soma and ativan suppositories and hae some relief of PFD but the bladder is another story. I have to be extremely careful with my diet and whenever I slip...I pay for it!
Hang in there and please let me know how you feel afterwards.

Everything went great yesterday. Im pretty sore but dr. moldwin said that it would take the botox at least 2 weeks to see if he gave me enough botox or not. So we shall ssee. We were done so early and i left an hour after the sugrey because i get over the antesia so beautifully lol. So we were able to switch times to come home early on the plane. Todays pretty painful which is expected because of the needles that were used in my pelvic bones.. it was done inside the vaginal area. But im excited and i cant wait to see how this all turns out. Thanks again for everything!!!!!
