I didn't look out the door before I let them out.. It's all my fault!
I am an accessary to murder.
I had the worst possible day. I let out the dogs, and they caught a baby
squirrel. I freaked out totally, it was barking and screaming. I got it away
from them and it tried to runaway. Just to get caught again, by the
flea bags. I was screaming no,no,no, and trying to hold back 3 dogs.
The poor little blacks squirrel, grabbed on to my pants and looked
at me as if saying please help me. Only to have one of the dogs
grab him. I tried so hard to get the baby squirell away from them.
Ashley came out and we couldn't hold them back long enough for him to
get away. I tried to reach down and pick him up, but one of the dogs beat
me to it. I feel so horrible. No matter what I did I couldn't save him.

That must have been an awful experience. What I think is great is that you tried to help. :kissing:

awwwwwwwwww, Cindy I know exactly how you feel. We had baby bunnies here in the Spring, and honestly I've got NO idea why any mama bunny would put a nest near my yard since the dogs are in and out all day long. A baby bunny took up residence here, and I tried and tried to keep the cats, and the dogs away from it, tried to make sure I knew where it was before ANY animal went into the back yard, etc....one morning I found it dead. It was so, SO sad. I can't imagine how awful it was for you to physically try and save the baby squirrel. I love animals too and it would have broken my heart...you did all you could, and, you love animals which makes you a great person in my book!!
Hugs, Sandy

I've been through that twice so I know how you feel. You did your best. It is an awful feeling. I'm in the country and my dog got a rabbit twice. The first time I ran after him (rabbit was still alive) half way through the woods. Got hit by tree branches, thorns and I finally gave up. The dog was too fast and way ahead of me. When he came back I yelled at him. He knew he did wrong by how he acted when he got back. he did it again but that time I caught him (rabbit was already dead) and I spanked him. He never did it again and he came to me from then on when I called him. It is the instinct in them that makes the dogs do that. Hard for us to understand it but that is normal for them really.

I am sorry and know how you feel. I have two weenie dogs that love to hunt squ. and I have had many die on my porch from them. A couple weeks ago the same thing and then when I asked my son to go put it in the woods and chicken snake had climbed up the tree and was eating the rest. My son shot it, but it was to late.
Oh and my murdering dogs, on Thanksgiving we left 12 chickens out of the coop, they were about 2 - 3 months old, and come dusk when they gathered up the weenine dogs attacked and killed all of them UGGG
Sorry again

Cindy,
I'm so sorry you had to go threw that. Sadly out here in the country I've been threw similar things like that more than once my self. It never gets any easier :( The thing is you did the best you could. know one could had ask for more you tried!! try not to feel so badly hon. it was an accident. I guess its just in a dogs nature to protect their turf. the animal was invading their space so they felt as a pack they would protect what was rightful theirs. You had no control over what happen, but Dear your heart was in the right place! that makes you an angel alone. try to forget about the awful seen. you did all you could. :grouphug:
sending you hugs and prayers.

We got them for the kids so they could see them hatch and stuff. Had the incubator and every thing. After the new wore off the kids would not help with them and we were trying to find them a home. But my youngest son loves anmials does not matter what they are and he cried about it. I liked 2 of them they had these funny feathers on their feet like boots. I wanted to get rid of them, but not like that....Hubby was mad at the dogs, made them sleep outside that night for punishment.
