I am rethinking all the PreLief hype. I recently checked the PH of a cup of black coffee which was 5, then added one packet of Prelief and it was still 5, added another packet and it was 5.5. So I am not so sure this stuff is much good? Testing was done with standard PH paper my Uro gave me.

What prelief probably does is allow your body to make things alkaline....many things that are acidic become alkaline in our body with the help of minerals some of which are in Prelief......So I am not sure your test would actually be able to give the results that helps to determine if Prelief will help you. I think the only really test of Prelief is to weather or not you feel better taking it or not. If not than it isn't for you. Since I have never bought Prelief in packet form I may be off here but I believe you can take as much of it as you need to get the results your want.

I just started prelief, and I can tell a big differnance because everything I was eating was making me have terrible bloating and gas, but with the prelief I have no gas or bloating, and I have been eating pretty much of what I want. I still have cut out the real bad things though like, tomatos, coffee, ect

Prelief has been a Godsend for me. I have never tested it to see how it reacts in something like a cup of coffee --- how it reacts in my body is what's important to me. I don't take it all the time, but when we eat away from home, it's comforting to me to know that it will help me avoid a flare.

Prelief works really well for me. I can definitely tell the difference. I used it before we went out for Thanksgiving dinner and it worked great.

I would like to think it works, but the argument that body enzymes change things does not really hold up because almost all citrus fruits go in acid but are changed to alkaline in the body, yet ICers say it is the "acid" in them that gives them symptoms?
I hope it has some effect as I just took 4 in anticipation a spagetti dinner.

Just remember that the Prelief should be taken immediately before you eat. If you take it hours in advance, it will not be effective.

Well when we fully understand the effect of diet on IC we may have this whole mystery solved...or at least be on a better path. :grouphug: Good luck with it!

Dear Sami4:
Please be assured that we routinely do pH checks and Prelief does work.
Our QC Department today tested a 6 oz cup of black coffee, using a pH meter, with the following results:
The initial pH read 4.78. The addition of 1 packet of Prelief powder changed the pH to 6.01 for a 94.1% acid reduction, the addition of 2 packets changed the pH to 6.47 for a 98% acid reduction, the addition of 3 packets changed the pH to 6.63 for a 98.6% acid reduction. Results can vary slightly according to the brand, Our particular coffee tested (today) was Brand Metropolitan Fine Coffees, Guatemalan Antiqua Full City Roast.
There is definitely not a straight line removal. With tomato juice it's roughly 21%, 37% and 50%. Some foods are closer for the first few tablets/packets.
Perhaps it's the pH strip you are using that might be over its use date? In general, pH paper does not compare to a pH meter in terms of reliability, accuracy or obtaining a true quantitative value.
I hope this information has been helpful. You might want to check out our website, www.prelief.com where a ‘% Acid Reduction Chart using Prelief’ is posted. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I'm going to agree with Betty here. Honestly, as someone who spent years in both pharmacology and winery labs, pH meters are going to be FAR MORE accurate than pH paper. I'm really quite confident with AkPharma's research and preparation. They've done their due diligence on the product and I think it's valid.
Also... FYI... I have to wonder if either the pH paper was old or perhaps the Prelief was an older batch.
Try it again ... do a couple of experiments and share the results back with us!

I would sure agree that the method used in testing was more accurate than PH paper. Hope you are right as I know your product does help many ICers. I will also be repeating my own tests. Going to check out the website also.
