Swimming in Sea

Has anyone had trouble swimming in the sea? I have a flare if I swim in a chlorinated pool, but wondered about swimming in the sea.

Also we are going on a cruise and the swimming pool on the ship has sea water in it and I wondered if anybody else was affected by this.

Any help would be appreciated.

i have no idea. I wouldn't do it because i'm too scared of bacterial infections. But plenty of people swim in the sea and they don't get infections. But i don't see how it would cause a flare unless there are chemicals in the water or something. Have fun if you do and tell us how it was! Sounds nice!!!!

I live on the Beach in Florida, after I take my daily powerwalk ( 3 miles) I usaly go for a dip in the golf with no proplems at all biggrin.gif

Living near the beach taking walks then a dip in the golf. Sounds fabolous! Especially,from those of us in Michigan right about soon here in the winter.

I,too, am going on a cruise and was wondering the same thing. I am going to chance it because I can't imagine going and not getting in the water. We leave tomorrow! Good luck to you!

We swam in the surf when we went to Hawaii and it was no problem for me.

Donna, that is where we are going, to Hawaii and then on a cruise around the hawaiian islands. I will give it a try and see what happens.

I swam at Key West, Fla., in the ocean this past fall and spring and had no problems. I do have problems if I swim in a strongly chlorinated pool, but the ocean was okay. Have fun and good luck.

Traysmum, we just got back from our cruise and I had no flares!!! The pools were filtered sea water and I enjoyed swimming in them as well as snorkeling and swimming in the ocean. It was no problem for me. I do have flares from chlorine pools, but obviously ocean water is different. Good luck to you and have fun on your cruise!!!!
